A Must for a Future Patch
A Must for a Future Patch
I was playing last night and got into a huge battle that keep me up till 1 AM. I had the opportunity to call in Reinforcements twice during the battle. My biggest problem was supplies. The one supply wagon I had at the beginning of the battle was routed early on [:@] and until the end I the battle I fought without supplies (except in the towns). None of the reinforcements brought any supply wagons with them and that is what should be fixed.
If I'm calling in an Army/Corps from another province they should bring their supplies with them. I think at least one supply wagon should show up with the reinforcements.

That's why I only quick battle for now until some of these detailed battle bugs are fixed, and the save feature, arrives with the first patch.....
RE: A Must for a Future Patch
Are reinforcements supposed to carry their own supply wagons along, instead of expecting to draw on the supplies already on the scene? I don't recall any mention on this theme in the thick of manuel. :pORIGINAL: Kid

Same here. The only possible difference is: I am well addicted to quick battles.ORIGINAL: J P Falcon

RE: A Must for a Future Patch
I look at it this way. If anyone of the armies I called on for reinforcements was to get into a battle on their own, they would have a supply wagon, so why not have it as reinforcements?

RE: A Must for a Future Patch
Reinforecments need approach the sound of the battle as quickly as possible, for which they are not likely to throw their whole lot with their blood-soaked compatriots. On this score, their slower-moving wagons may well just be left lagging behind. (For sake of a game, though, I would find it desirable to have more supply wagons.)ORIGINAL: Kid

RE: A Must for a Future Patch
This is not a bug, in that it is intentional. There is nothing in the manual to suggest it would operate differently. And if we put up a good case, it is probably easy to change. What would you like: one caisson per army/corps if they are in supply, and one caisson only if they are foraging?
IMHO, though, reinforcements come without any supply - they have rushed to the sounds of the guns. Their supplies would be a couple of days behind. The secret to this problem is to have your units in good supply before the battle started, not add caissons with the reinforcements.
That said, the precise way the supply caisson abstraction works eludes me, and I do not really understand what the developers were thinking (other than something reasonably easy to put in a game) - so your argument could well be fruitful.

That's the way I've always thought of it. But, as mentioned on other threads, the supplies that units start out with could probably do with being increased, IMHO.

Am I right in saying that with the reinforcements also the generals of that army or corps do not arrive? because I have never had the pleaasure of seeing them arrive.

Yes, generals (at least their portraits) miss out arriving to their compatriots' aid.ORIGINAL: Latour_Maubourg

They probably rather prefer long liquid lunches above fighting, That's why there is always the message "We need wine" [:D][:D]

I never thought this was a bug, just something I would like to see changed. I guess it depends on how you view things, do the reinforcments bring supplies or not, but for playability I think they should. Although I enjoyed the huge battle very much, I spent more time trying to get supplies than fighting the enemy. A comprimise would be to have the supply wagon arraive last.

Oh, I think the generals should come with the army too. I never noticed that they did not. Too busy looking for black power and lead balls.[;)]

They don't bring supplies and I do agree with you that they should. Sometimes I feel more a logistics manager than an armchair general [:)]

RE: A Must for a Future Patch
I actually prefer the way it is now.
As stated before, the reinforcements are coming headlong into battle at full speed from a distant land.
Going many miles over mountains to top speed is quite a task for forces.
When the men arrive, they should not be expected to be as fully battle ready as troops stationed there.
No wagons. Limited initial supply. This seems reasonable and well thought out.
And IMHO, being a a supply manager is one of the critical roles of any general.
Many many wars and battles were lost through simple supply management or knowing how to limit the enemy supply.

Hmm, I don't agree that the reinforcements should bring their 'supply wagons' and really don't see the logic of it at all. The Army or Corps calling for reinforcements would send several dispatch riders calling for aid. The reinforcements would then likely force march in response to get there as quickly as possible to help their comrades. Supply wagons, being inherently slow, would be the last to arrive if they ever did before the battle ended. I don't know the inner workings, but CoG seems to handle this adequately with reinforcements arriving fatigued and in the case of Arty 'tangled'. A suitable abstraction IMO. I agree though that the commanding Generals of the reinforcements should have a random chance of coming onto the scene as well.

Yes, generals (at least their portraits) miss out arriving to their compatriots' aid.
No, that is NOT correct.
In detailed combat, generals come with their forces as usual.
In quick combat, although generals do not get their images drawn, eric assures me that they do come in, and do affect the battle.
If you have any evidence to the contrary, then it would be a bug, but I haven't noticed this stop working since I did detailed testing to validate it.
