Treaty problems

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Treaty problems

Post by dapamdg »

Ran into a quandry and was hoping for some help by the experts. My British just forced the Spanish to surrender. The Spanish had obtained Portugal as a protectorate early in the game, but I wanted to own it for my political victory conditions. I could not find a provision on the treaty screen for turning over a protectorate to the victor. I saw how I could have forced Spain to turn over her home provinces, but I could not figure out how to get Spain to turn over Portugal. Can it be done? The best I could figure out was to have Spain grant Portugal independence, after which I invaded it myself. I must be missing something obvious. Can anyone help? Thanks.

There is another way to get the same result, for which you can save vps to spend otherwise. It is by sending diplomats to cause insurrection in Portugal. (I did so to make Venetia go independent.)

Make sure you plan the campaign at the time of the surrender treaty. Some computer players are known for declaring war on the liberated country the very next turn, because they really want it back.

Example:
in my last (failed) attempt as Turkey, I made Austria liberate Venetia. The next month we both declared war on it. Unlike games like EIA, COG was quite OK with us both declaring war on Veneto simultaneously. In the event, Austria didn't send any forces - but if they had, I assume who got the city would have been as if Austria and I were allied (which we certainly were not).
