Sailfish's skipper probably has (or HAD by now) a very high agression level and decided to surface in order to attack an "unescorted" convoy on the sufarce. While doing so he got jumped by the escord that had been lurking on the OTHER side of the convoy. Sailfish fled gallantly, but while trying to crash dive got struck by a torpedo launched by IJN destroyer Asagiri......

As some one said earlier, US subs did torpedo themselves in the war. Runaway torpedoes were a real concern. Getting hit by your own fish is a real bummer.

WITP submarines only attack on the surface unescorted ships.
I read everyone's commentary up to this point - and though many have pointed out that it could happen in reality, I don't believe I have seen a definitive yes or know to the main question - namely - does the game allow this or was that a glitch?ORIGINAL: marky

Off Formosa on 25 October 1944, the USS Tang commanded by CDR Richard H. O'Kane, USN, fired a torpedo at a transport ship but the torpedo ran wild and ended up sinking the Tang. Only 9 men, including O'Kane, survived out of a crew of 87.
