I know this is just my dumbo, because others are using the editor with no problems. I load Excel from Office 2000, enter the proper file information in B3, hit the button and get informed that it can't load the file (path, finename, read only, illegal characters). Turns out the file is full of illegal characters (<> ?) What am I missing here?

Are you using "enable macros" when you load?

Are you trying to load a PBEM game? PBEM save files are scrambled and are unintelligible when you read them into the editor. Also, if you don't get the full path entered properly in B3, this could also cause problems.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not using a PBEM file. I am attempting to load a copy of OBC42, which I have called OBC42A. The path is elaborate, so I moved a copy directly into C. Same deal, which is:

Windows states that certain characters are illegal and cannot be loaded. These characters are:

< > ? [ ] : obc42a.xls or *

A quick look at the obc42a file shows that it is full of < and ? characters.

Again, what am I missing?

I may have an answer for your problem. Is the button you push to import your obc42 file up in the toolbar? There are two buttons up in the toolbar area that I neglected to delete. These were experimental and don't contain the proper macros.

The buttons you should push to import and export save files are located in the spreadsheet at cells F1 and G1, respectively. Use of the spreadsheet buttons should solve your problem.

The extraneous Pacwar toolbar (with two buttons) should be deleted.

P.S. The save files are stored in binary format, so the data will look strange if you view it with a text editor. The excel macros read the binary format.
