LILLY II

Post by sethwrkr »

I had a factory making lilly IIs. I have no groups of lilly IIs. I can not change any groups to lilly IIs. I changed the factory to judy's. I now have about a hundred lilly IIs in my pool. Whats the deal?

Have you got any Lily (I) Squadrons, if so you will get the inturn request to upgrade.

Don't think you can change the Lily's to II's outside this

The F8F, Ki-48, Ki-100, and Q1Y cannot be manually changed. There is probably something within the OBC iteslf that does not recognize these spaces, due to them being previously blank. However, they will auto upgrade (F8F from F6F, Ki-48-II from Ki-48, Ki-100 from Ki-61, and Q1Y from E13A I think...)

They are not auto upgrading for me. This is a problem worth fixing if it is worth it to include these planes.

LillyIIs are still pool flowers. I do not even know what they can do. I have not seen a group.

Are they as good as helens?

Best way I found to fix this Lily II problem was to just change some new arriving airgroups in the OBC to Lily's II's so they can then draw the Lily II's outta the pool.

Sulup,

Thank you. I hope the designers/modifiers will find that solution as unpalletable as I do. I can not even change the lilly II factory into what I want to. I am limintes to Vals, Marys, or Sonias. Letme make hellens and I wOULD HAVE A MUCH SMALLERPROBLEM.

Matrixgames,

Can you fix this one?

Seth

PS.

I started another game and I have the ability to manufactur A-17 Nomads as the japanese. What are A-17 Nomads? IS this a bug, theyn sound awfully American?
Making sonias is a waste of time, marys are beter and the japanese start with plenty ofthem. I usualy am fine for vals, so for kicks i am makinf A-17. Will this be another airplane that I can not get out of the pool? How bout anm option to shut down irrelevant factories and save on resourses. Or beter yet turn it into a tank factory.

I think the A-17 was the US Army Air Force version of the early SBD Dauntless (or possiblythe Vindacator). One Chinese group starts with it, but it is obsolescent at the start of the war. Its inclusion on the Japanese plane list is certainly an error.

If you want to take the radical approach, manually convert (via editor) all your Lily IIs in the pool to Vals. Eventually, you get enough LB Val units to make this worthwhile, at least as a training plan while you wait for the Judy production to fill out your frontline units and build up a reserve.

I find the Lily useful as an initial aircraft group into a newly-taken level 2 or 3 airfield. They exert an air zone and so hinder counter-attacks. They also attack shipping. Tac bombers have to wait until you get the airfield to level 4 before they can move in.

Later in the war, when you are on the defensive, dive bombers add some anti-shipping punch to the defenses in areas where you don't want to commit IJN aircraft. Carriers will blow hem away, but you force the Allies to commit CVs everywhere they want to advance. This means no "cheap" wins in the DEI for the British, for instance.

In the "dead period" between the end of the Japanese advances and the beginning of the Allied counter-offensives, they do well in Hainan or Haiphong bombing the odd Chinese army to build up experience. They are not the worst in the Japanese inventory, by a long shot (can anyone say "Nate"?)

Woops! Forget my reply above. Lily and Lily II are not dive bombers (although they were in a previous iteration of the OBCs).

I ahve been playing a game as the Japanese for the first time in a while, and what you say is correct - by the time the Lily II comes out, it is entirely superceded by the Helen, and most of the Lily groups are manually upgraded. The game DOES auto-upgrade the Lily to the Lily II, but you don't notice the difference! Still, the factory churns them out and you need to produce something, so Vals/Judys are probably the best bet.

As you say, an AFV factory would be even better, but Japan, unlike in previous versions, no longer seems to produce AFVs. Maybe later in the war?

Perhaps the solution is to just follow the same lame Japanese acft policy as in the real war, and never change planes/factories manually. This would add to the challenge!

Hello...

No, none of us here. We are all over working on Uncommon Valor.

I took a look at the situation you described. I believe the problem is that this aircraft is a new one and the slot in which it is located is higher than the executable expects. The program, therefore, does not know it is there. This will have to be repaired in the program. I will make the correction for you all and we will release another patch in the not too diatant future.

Thanks...

Hi, I never get to see these planes. I switch everything to Helens on turn 1. (screw China and Manchuria) I also stop building Sonia's (not my resources on that crap) Once the Nick is in production the Nates and Oscars say goodbye. I have very simple production
Zeros IJN Nick IJA Betty IJN Helen IJA plus the AC I need for my bird farms.

Mogami,

Unfortunately, the Lily II factory in question sets up during the game. It cannot be switched to Helens - they are not on the list of options presented (but the A-17 is, and I don't think the A-17 is on any Allied lists)!

The problem is real if the player has upgraded all his Lilys to Helens. Lily Is will auto-upgrade, but you will have few if any by the time the factory "turns on."
