Quite serious issue with AB map and CHS...

Post by Sardaukar »

I'm playing CHS 1.01 campaign 1.6 patch against AI (scenario with AB's normal map, v.3b) and just found my Brits in Myitkyina in dire straits.

After Japanese shock attack my 30 000 troops retreated from Myitkyina. Text said they were "Retreating towards Ledo". OK, I thought, no biggie, I have reinforcements coming and can air supply. When I checked, they had retreated *NW*, not NE via trail !! There was no issues with hex control since NE hex was firmly in British hands, double checked.

Supply etc, calculations seem to think that closest route to Ledo goes via Imphal/Kohima...[X(][:@][:(].
That will cause all troops that retreat from Myitkyina to retreat NW instead of trail to NE.

That did basicly kill my CHS Campaign since It'll take 2-3 months to get those troops out from pure jungle. Not kind of birthday present I was expecting...

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is anything I can do about this, except upgrade the Ledo road from a trail to a road, which is highly unrealistic. Looking at the movement table in the manual, moving through one hex of forest, to Kohima, would be quicker than three hexes of trail to Ledo anyway, although I have no idea why it would say "retreating to Ledo" if it decided that Kohima was actually closer.

Well, sorry if I was bit testy [:)]. It did say "Retreating towards Ledo" which is confusing.
Maybe making those mountain hexsides non-passable ?? That would probably create more problems than it'd solve, though.
Anyhow, I was able to counterattack..and now AI is encircled in Myitkyina with 61 000 troops. I just don't tknow if I can hold them there...[:D]

No need to apologise, Sardaukar...

Yeah, I think you are right. I am very hesitant to use crude hacks like this to force particular outcomes.
