Sending AI generals back

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Sending AI generals back

Post by carburo »

Is there any way that generals can be rescued by the AI?

In my current game Kutuzov and Mack deserted to my side, and I’m looking for a way of sending them back to the AI. The AI is weak enough in detailed combat, and I don’t need the extra help of having its best commanders in my ranks. Also, the historical feeling is wrecked having Kutuzov in the French side. For some odd reason, British generals seem to prefer retirement. They simply settle in France after their armies are destroyed, but none have asked for a job in my army.

BTW, I think generals should be able to gain and lose habilities according to their performance in the game, and that the option of sometimes getting a new general after big battles, that I think is not working, should be implemented as it says in the manual. As it is, some countries are stuck with few and really bad generals, and there’s nothing they can do about it. This is a problem especially when the game advance, as armies tend to grow bigger and everyone except France is short of commanders. Spain for instance starts with one army and four really bad generals. As they build more armies/corps, they don’t have enough commanders, even lousy ones, to lead them.

Hi, Also Generals should move like diplomats (not need a ship to cross ocean) You should not have to commit an entire fleet to move 1 man. (or 1 man his horse and his staff)

There are a couple of things open to exploits - for example, I have just gotton Napoleon to immigrate to Sweden: we need a good general, and made him an offer he couldn't refuse. I'll write it up if it doesn't get fixed in the patch.

When another nation's general is captured he gets your flag and you can move him and even put him in your armies/corps if you really want to, but captured generals shouldn't fight on your side. Let me know if these generals show up in combat for you...

Ralegh's talking about a different bug, I think, involving corps on loan, in which commanders in that corps remain permanently on loan and, in effect, defect over to your side.

Eric,
I haven’t tried using them to lead my armies. As I said before, seen Kutuzov heading a French Army against Russia would detract from the historical feeling. Even if it’s possible –I’ll try and tell you- I won’t use them.
My real question is: any way of sending them back? The AI really needs it’s generals.
I see you will increase the probability of getting new commanders after battles. That will definitely help some nations that start with few/poor commanders. Any chance of getting generals to “evolve” for the next patch?

Would a work around be to lend them a corps/army (if you have a spare !!) for a month or two with their own leaders attached?

Are you sure they deserted? I've never seen that, only captured leaders. I put captured leaders with a POW group and they return when peace happens.

I had, in a game where I played France, so many arrested generals (many of them captured while lingering too long in France proper) and POW divisions to my total frustration. I decided to, and did, send them as far as to Gibraltar (with a paltry forage value of 20k) waiting for starvation. I found Britain didn't care to tell its garrision there to come to liberate the prisoners, many of them Britons, both generals and soldiers. Besides, to my surprise, the prisoners did participate in a Spanish siege of Gibraltar, as the Events report noted French head loss there. Pretty funny.
