saving editors changed data

Post by ancient doctor »

Ok here is the question.
I decided to find out what i can change/do with the editor for units data(not senario)so i launched it and opened the "war in the pacific"senario.Anyway i make some changes mostly to the IJ squads values(anti armor and anti soft values) and then tried to save it but nothing,no message not anything. Then i tried to "save as" upon the senario i opened but an error message apeared telling me that i cant save upon official matrix slot.
So how do i save changed data that will be used for existing senarios(not custom ones)?

But i dont want to make/play custom senario.
What i want to do is make some changes in the whole war senario, save them and then play it as is.Like changing endurance for Zero's or making IJA infantry squads more powerfull.Just to be able to save changed data and then play them with the senario already at hand.
So where do i save it?What should i do?
Come on with so many people-experienced players/modders i can hardly beliave that nobody knows how to do that.
Help to a newby please.

Just save it to another scenario slot. If you make any changes it will become a "custom" scenario anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean by "play them with the senario already at hand", but any changes you do make to the scenario database files always require that you start a new game for them to be applied. You can't make changes to a game in progress, unless you're Mike Woods that is.

seaman,

The reason the editor will not allow you to save a scenario to a slot below # 25 is to prevent cheating in PBEM.

To create a custom scenario all you have to do is open the scenario editor and open the scenario you want to edit. save it to a slot >25. Close the scenario editor. Open the same scenario (you opened with the scenario editor) with the database editor. Make your changes and then save it to same slot you saved it to using the database editor.

I only play SP and never MP so its not about cheating or something. After all in MP if the data between 2 players are conflicting then the game shouldnt go on right?

Anyways since English isnt my mother language the problem might be the explanation of my purpose.so here is what i want to do.
I wish to play the whole war senario but with few changes in terms of data like what guns and how many a ship/plane can carry and so on.
So if i understood correctly there is a way to transfer the whole war senarion to a different slot and make whatever changes i want there.End the editors and go play the same senario(different slot) like the official but WITH my changes included, right?

Ancient seaman,

Correct. Just remember to use the scenario editor as well as the database editor. You do not have make any changes using the scenario editor but there are files used by the game that it creates when you save the scenario to a new slot.

Here is how I do it. I want to edit scenario 15.

1) Using the scenario editor I open scenario 15 and save it to slot 65. (you can use any slot >25)
2) Using the database editor I open scenario 15 and save it to slot 65. (the scenario and database editors must save to the same slot)
3) Make my changes and save.

There is a editor manual that explains what each field does and which slots are restricted.

Yes you can change the name (20 character limit). One thing to remember is if you change something like the armamanet of a ship class or aircraft, the changes will not show up unless you go to the ships of that class (or air groups which use that aircraft) and reselect that ship class (or aircraft).
