Pearl Harbor {CHS}

Post by rockmedic109 »

I cannot claim thinking this one up. It is an idea that someone else came up with and I have forgotten who it was.

I made Maryland and Tennessee arrive on Dec 8 with 30 SYS damage each. Pennsylvania also arrives on Dec 8, with 45 SYS damage. They were each hit by two bombs and Pennsylvania was already in dry dock. I do not know what the appropriate damage level should have been for the three ships so I guessed.

The Pearl Harbor fighters were placed on training mission to keep CAP down to nothing. I also {shudder and cringe} removed Utah.

The Pearl Harbor strike sent six torps into Oklahoma and another six into California, sinking both. Arizona took four and is at 80% flotation. This is the closest to real life results I have ever had.

Removing Utah, Maryland, Tennessee and Pennsylvania forces the strike to concentrate on the remaining vessels and not send torpedo armed Kates after ships that could not be hit by torps.

Reducing the Magazine Explosions has reduced the effectiveness of Pearl Harbor strikes. I agree with the idea of reducing the Magazine Explosions, but the side effect was annoying. To whomever suggested the Dec 8 arrival date for Maryland, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania, I thank you.

Hey that was me! Glad to help. All my ideas are good.

Other great mods I have had:
First to use armour on subs
Gave the Jap DP 5in guns on their DD some weak AAA ability, low acuracy though
Gave Japs 500kg bomb
Gave Chinese 50k extra supply
Gave Chinese cities three extra fort levels
Changed the Jap pilot replacement system. Both Jap pilot pools were reduced to zero. And the monthly replacement rate for both pilot pools were reduced to zero as well!!! BUT the pilot experience rating for the IJN pilots was increased to 90 and the IJA pilots were increased to 80. This way the IJN pilots enter at half- so will be 45+- and the IJA pilots enter at 40+-. So Japs don't get any pre-war pilots and slow replacement rate. They have three-quarter trained one instead. They still have to train but doesn't take as long. And during quiet battles they could feed them into the frontline I guess. This will see a decline in Jap pilot skills, but at least they have already passed kindy:) (Also this might be a supply bonanza for the Japs because less of their planes will be in training cycle- but I don't think it will make too much difference because they will be flying missions or flying training which both cost supply.)
Allied pilot rates were increased between 5-10 to increase of lots of extra fighting. Brits got extra 15.
Every plane has had ten durability added.
Some of the slowest Jap fighters have had 15-25mph added to make thm a little more competitive.
Increased the range on British planes. (using ranges printed in some books.)
Ki-61 Tony delayed by two months
Decreased cargo capacity slightly on all AK,AP,TK,AO- both sides.

Nothing too crazy- I hope!

Thanks Shark.

Do Subs need armor after 1.5? Toning down the aircraft which still seem a little powerful. Maybe dropping % allowed on ASW mission would decrease air ASW effectiveness?

Is the 5" DP in addition? Or making current guns DP? Wouldn't want to increase their ship-ship firepower.

The IJN pilot changes are interesting. I wonder if it may lead to what I experienced in vanilla with chinese pilots. 5 or 6 chinese pilots with 90+ exp running up a score. It seemed a little off when playing early versions of the game.

I didn't start playing with the editor till a week or so ago. I should've added my step-son as a pilot. Or maybe the guy across the street...he flew in China. Need to look him up and see if he's in the database.

I also need to edit the sultry brunette with the torpedoes. Put a picture of my wife in there. Maybe she won't mind me playing so much. "See honey. Playing wargames IS romantic!"

NO 90 experience Jap pilots are trained. The pilot pools and monthly replacements are both set to ZERO. The IJN gets +- 45 and the IJA +-40. The Japs don't get any pilots over that. We were going to have a medium size pilot pool but changed to this one instead. The Japs still have to train their pilots from the mid-forties up to 60+, but they aren't losing hundreds of kindy kids in the low 20s and 30s. Pilots will still be lost on training missions but they have more chance. I don't want to see the Jap pilots getting into the 90s either unless they have achieved merit on the battlefield.

We have used armoured subs before. And like it as they can survive an occasional hit. Most times they get 60ish flood damage so die on the way home. But some defensive subs can survive if they dash into a close port. Pump out the H2O and sneak back to a better facility. Some damaged subs have be struck in ports by planes.

Current guns were given DP classification. And a new AA gun was made for some ships so we didn't increase their surface to surface firepower.

Maybe we could editor the planes' pictures and put g/f or wives's names on the side of the planes. "Look honey. I named this B24 after You my love. Look there is a painting of a little sharkette that looks like you:) :) :)" "And the little dolphin from down the street is on the side of the recon plane!" "And your mother is on that plane there." "Which plane?" "That one. It's called a Walrus. OucH!"
