US Bomber production question

Post by MHV »

Here's a production question from a PacWar newbie:

I have played 2 games all the way through as the US. Both times, in late '44 I was producing 14 Liberators and 7 Superforts per turn, max. Needless to say, most of my B-29 groups were sitting idle for months on end.

I loaded the "Marianas" scenario in 2.2 and the US starts in mid-44 with production levels of 40 Liberators and 65 Superforts per turn.

Is this a glitch? Am I doing something grievously wrong? I have done much better by mid-44 than the US historically did, but my aircraft production levels - especially bombers - are just a small fraction of the what the US starts with in the Marianas scenario. I feel stupid raiding Tokyo with Mustangs and LightningJs, but you shoot what bullets you've got...

Thx for your help

If you use the pacwar editor to see the costs of a B-24 or B-29, they are much greater than what they were in the old Pacwar. A B-29 is worth 14 cost compared to 9 in the old version. Try lowering it back to 9 and see what happens. It seems that the higher the cost the slower it takes for the factory to grow.

As for the Mariana's scenario, all the factories and plane pools have been pre-edited that's why there's plenty of bombers around!

This isn't the first time this question has been asked. This affects the original game, and they made it worse in the update by increasing the bomber's cost. There was a long thread about this, but nothing was done IIRC. Use the editor to fix it.

OK, thx for the advice. Now part 2...

If I am to use the editor, what should I lower B-29 cost to? I don't want to make it so low that 1 is popping off the assembly line every 10 minutes...

Is 11 about right?

The original PACWAR had it as a cost of 9. Look at the cost of the other planes and try to make a estimate. Small light planes cost less where heavy, thick armored planes would cost more to make.

By the way, the heavy bombers in PACWAR 2.2 cost over 9 and it seems that the EXE is hardcoded to not recognise any Hvy bomber costs over 9. This is why you can't change production types on any of the Heavy bomber factories. This is definately going to need to be fixed IMO.

Also, heavy industry affects how quickly the factories expand. The problem is the East US has a Hvy industry value of 90 where really, this is barely what the whole of East US would've really had been. I guess you have to consider the fact that only the Pacific theatre is represented.
