Army bombing Navy

Post by mmoaorrke »

How does one get the army bombers to bomb task forces? The fighters do it, but I can't get the bombers to attack ships. Historically, they did, look at the Bismark Sea for example. I've played both sides and haven't had any luck with either sides Army planes.

This ones easy... Set the army bombers airgroups mission to "NAVAL INTERDICTION". Now all army bombers will only bomb TF's. Keep in mind however that tactical bombers aren't nearly as effective as the dive and torpedo bombers.

By the way, if you don't want fighters to bomb bases you can also set them to "NAVAL INTERDICTION". This keeps them from flying over bases and getting blown away by flak.

Hope this helps you...

Thanks. I was starting to figure it out but the NI didn't seem to be doing the trick. Much better now. Didn't know that about the fighters, that will come in handy. Thanks again.

The experience levels of your aircraft will also affect the ability of them to interdict. I also think that their range isn't quite as good as Naval bombers when set on NI.

The TAC bombers set to NI are great against ships with high experience. B-25's attack with bombs, with torpedoes and, If IJN gets too close, the 2,000 pounders. One of those will put a light carrier down for the count!

What about Army LBA flying Dauntless and Navy/Marine LBA flying B-25? Does the aircraft type has an influence on which bomber group attacks ships or is it just the service?

LST,

My experience has been that the aircraft type is the dominant influence, but since I commit USMC acft only with higher experience (since they usually need it to successfully attack ships) and since I think there is only one USAAF squadron with SBDs, I cannot say for sure.

I think the exp needs to be at least 70
For b25's to attack effectively, also sbd's will attack subs with high exp

In the original version of the game, I seldom saw B-25 attacks on ships, unless it was the USMC group. I agree that 70 experience seemed to be needed for those planes to attack. I was very frustrated as the Japanese because none of the IJA tac- bombers seemed to attack ships, even on NI.

My favorite tac-bomber in the old game was the Beaufighter. This plane always seemed to attack ships, whether on NI or not, and seemed to drop 2000 lb bombs with reasonable frequency in close.

Version 2.2 has been a pleasant surprise so far. The IJA Sonia and Mary have been reclassed as dive-bombers, and I've seen the Mary promptly put down some RN warships and transports. I put some of the Australian Hudsons on NI with about 55-58 exp in desperation from a base in Port Moresby. I was shocked at how many Japanese AP and MC they sank. While the amazing Hudsons were at work their experience shot up like a rocket. Makes me wonder what could be accomplished by Bolo, Martin, Blenheim IV, Beufort II, Havoc, and other tac-bomber groups now.

Hi Warpup, I second your vote for the Beaufighter. The Brit bombers with the exception of the Wellington seem much more prepared to 'have a go' at tf's than the U.S. mediums. With 2.2, I have noticed that if I put U.S. level bombers on NI, they do seem to strike tf's more often than in the old PacWar. Even B17's, though they don't hit anything.

The B17 do eat up lats of jap fighters though. They are the best thing for knocking jap air power from the skies until late 42

Hi, I am working on a temporary-fix OBC which has some revised stats and experience levels for Allied and Japanese aircraft. Experience does come into play. The better the experience level, the more hits and more planes that will rise to the bombing occasion. Low experience will give them less hits per aircraft, and less aircraft in the air.

Yes, B-17's are good A6M killers, especially with the new armament and durability ratings!

The best planes that I have run into are the G4M's, when set on NI. If you don't have them bombing allied bases, they can really kill CAPless TF's, and even cause damage to CV TF's if they get through the CAP. Their range can have them controlling a large area from only a few bases. Pack on a level 6 base with 4 G4M's and 2 A6M's and you are having a tough time for an amphibious invasion.
