Atomic Weapons and PacWar

Post by RayM »

I'm a new player of Pacwar and have progressed to the point where the atomic bombs are added to the US arsenal. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to actually drop them? Neither the Pacwar manual nor the great strategy hints/guide of Oct 1996 address this issue. BTW, when I ran the game with computer control of all HQs, the bomb was never dropped and I finally got the dreaded Allies drop demand....game over screen. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Change the mission status of one or more B-29 groups to the Atomic mission (can't remmember what is exactly called). Then if the conditions are right i.e. 1.)a bomb has been produced, 2.) HQ has enough Prep Points. 3.) Your B-29 Sqaudron is close enough to Japan. The bomb should drop. There may be more conditions.

Just remember only one bomb will dropped during a turn phase. I can't remember if the player can direct where the bomb is dropped, or if the computer selects the target.

Hope this helps.

P.S.
Check out page 19 of the manual.

Starting in August 1945, there is only a random chance that the Allies will receive an atomic bomb. If you receive one, you will get a message in the "Allied Orders Phase" screen that says "Atomic Arsenal: 1".

Once you reach this point, you can assign one of your B-29 air groups to "Atomic Bomb" mission. As Manic Jester indicated, make sure it is close enough to Japan, e.g. Marianas.

Do not assign the base that holds this B-29 group to any target. I don't think the mission will be flown if you do. You cannot pick the target, the computer will do it for you. The "AB" mission will be flown at night.
