Declare war and plunder and supply

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Declare war and plunder and supply

Post by plasticpanzers »

I think a player should be notified when another power
declares war on them. If you do not check the relations page every turn your borders can be attacked
quite quickly. I think if the other (Comp run or real
person) declars war you should see a parchment with
the declaration of war on it by whom.
Also i do not think armies without leaders should be
able to plunder. I had a broken British army i was
hounding around France and hacking to bits for several
months but even without a leader they plundered several
provinces. I think without a leader they would not have the wherewithall to decide to do a specific task
such as plunder. Especially as they were out of supply
several times.
Also I do not think a country (specific Britain)
can set up supply depots on a coast where they do
not own a port or province. Supply by sea is very
hard for a large field army, more so when they set
up further ones inland and march inland basically
being supplied off the beaches. They have no "red
ball express" back then.

I got to disagree with you on the plunder issue, my thinking would be the other way around, a Leader would be more able to stop his army from plundering

even more so in the case as you make it, these are troops who are out of supply, they will try and take what ever they can, from where ever they can, and most troops, do like fire and smashing things to start with, so if they break into something, the odds are they are going to smash it up and burn it down

I think maybe it is the term you are thinking, youmay take plunder to be like the union, going though the south, tearing up the RRs (which would need a leader) while I see it as troops trying to get food and money and goodies (which would not)

I agree with you on the 2nd issue, even by the first WW, it was HARD to supply a landing force
