RE: Allies fight continues... massive air operations in China...!
As Rob said, it definitely seems that he has to use rookie pilots already on his Tonies. Your planes will murder them if he continues that !![8D] His carrier pilots are still probably all veterans, but it seems that IJAAF is hit quite badly.
Heh, P-38G will be a nasty surprise indeed...[:D]

December 1942 is close... Japanese step up the pressure in China...
I have been really busy IRL so haven't had time to update this AAR. This doesn't mean that the war has slowed down though.
Btw nice going in your PBEM Rob.. I will email you later..
Game date is 21st of November 1942
Thanx for the comments again guys!!! I have now recieved my P38's squadrons and indeed IJN army pilots were hit hard. I have 5 squadrons of AVG and Spitfires cretided with over 100 kills and even Chinese pilots are between 20-60 kills confirmed. That's how hard fough air battles were raging and are again gathering pace.
Here is the situation raport:
India & Burma
2 Japanese divisions were able to block Burma road just below Myithkina... In order to deal with this situation I did send substantial Chinese force there from Myithkina. They were able to dislodge the enemy forces but that seemed to be a "decoy" operation because he has now moved units to Myithkina base itself. So, those units involved with counter offensive are now heading back to Myithkina and hopefully are able to reach it in time.
Also, my british PT boats engaged the enemy outside Rangoon base... they were able to sunk 3 Japanese DD's before finally IJN pilots sunk most of them.
Otherwise I'am still building up forts and shifting supplies in India.
Central & North Pacific
Building up my units in Central Pacific... there are quite a few allied forces stationed in Central Pacific.
Operation Delfine has also commenced sometime ago... I have decieded to my subramarines near Japanese home islands in order to harrash his supply convoys. This has already proven succesfull since I have sunk couple of Japanese AK and AP's. There are even more submarines enroute towards designed operational areas.
US CV's and strong surface TF's are stationed in Pearl Harbour at the moment. It is safe to say with all my LBA and Navy strengths he wohn't be assaulting this base... actually I would like him to try it.
Australia, NZ & South Pacific
Supply and fuel convoys are reaching their targets.
I have kept the pressure on with continued bombings of Luganville, Lautem and Koepang. Also, I have now started bombings of Baker Island and Funafuti Island.
Fiji island chain is now fortified to maxium. I have plenty of ac's there and it is now quite substantial fortress.
China
This is the main battle area... no additional Chinese cities has been captured though. He has now troops just below and just north of Chungking. Totaling propably around +200 000 troops all together... and couple of last turns he has attacked Chungking with his airforce.. this has been costly to his pilot pool as you can see...

I guess it is safe to assume that siege and assault againts Chungking has now started.
In the South he still has his troops in Kweiyang... and he has kept bombing Kumming base. This base has become his practise target since there is just not too much I can do about these kind of assaults.
No major ground battles has been fought allthough I think that the ground war is about to start.
Still no sign of of KB nor any other Japanese major surface vessels. That is somewhat disturbing.
I have also been thinking on where to hit him some in 1943. There are couple of options... Burma or South Pacific... also DEI could be juicy target as well... those are the options in my mind.

RE: December 1942 is close... Japanese step up the pressure in China...
Great to see you back [:)].. I was thinking you had gone on holiday ..Glad to see RL hasnt stopped you playing. But i guess priority is playing rather than AAR . I know the feeling
You are getting mobbed in the ait over chungking. how are the squadrons holding up ? the toll of jap a/c is quite phenominal ! congratulations.
As for a counterattack .. getting the shipping route Us-Australia free of japs might be big help and seriously cut down transit times. So get back efate and luganville first .. easily under fighter cover from noumea now. probly done without risking the Cv's as well .. 2 divs a landing and if not enough then noumea is close. use it as a staging post.
Afetr you clear that up .. is pago jap ? bomb it to hell n back from canton .. same with baker .. then the Cv's in pearly can escort invasion troops in thus getting the south pac back to normal.
After that .. if you can get timor imo .. threatens the whole DEI.. and makes a great liberator base for hitting oil centres. also forces him to commit a lot of air assets in previously 'safe' areas.
Meanwhile push in Burma. dont risk any naval invasions though.. just my opinion.
If Burma is secure then china is in a much better postion supply and reinforcement wise.. get the dakaotas from ledo flying in/out troops and use calcutta/dacca as a rest n refit station.
well thats my 2p worth .. again good to see u bac .. bet your glas u didnt throw in in the towel afetr wake now
.. remember recon is your freind now that you have a few F5 lightnings.. WAY better than using catalinas.
As ever .. GL

RE: December 1942 is close... Japanese step up the pressure in China...
No, my summer vacation was spent over month ago...
The fighters in Chungking are holding up ok... they are suffering losses but are inflicting damage 3:1 ratio so I more than pleased with their performance.
I guess Efate and Luganville are obvisious targets... so he is propably preparing to defend those bases. Granted that those two bases are vital for future operations so I do need to capture them... only thing I haven't decieded is when to do it!?
Pago Pago is in allied hands... his most west ward positions are Funatifuti & Baker islands... oh, and Wake Island ofcourse. Btw are Baker and Funafuti atolls??? I'am not sure about that and I do not want to shock attack again right off the landings!!! I think that Efate and Luganville are islands though???
I agree that I do not make any risky movements in Burma... allthough if I'am able to shutdown his airfields there than I will consider this option again... because I would like to launch 2 massive attacks simultaneously in order to suprise him off guard!
Timor is also key point to consider.. only thing about this is that I do not have enough infantry men stationed in Northern Australia to consider this... So, I'am thinking about coming in from North via Malaya!
I do have few Lightning recon planes but not nearly enough to maintain good intelligence effort.
Game date is 25th of November 1942
Anyway, 4 days has passed again... here is the situation report:
China
Japanese airforce launched assault againts Chungking... and again they suffered heavy lossess. Last two has been quiet and nomore air raid sirens have been heard over the city

Kumming has been bombed to stoneage... that base is no longer operational base. No ground assaults have been made by either side... I guess he is waiting for reinforcements.
Burma & India
Those Chinese troops marching towards Myithkina are now only 10km away from the base. It is intresting that he has not launched any major assaults againts Myithkina... since he does have 3 units in the base hex.
Chandspur was also "hit"... 6 Bettys flew kamikaze mission againts the city and they were easily shot down by Hurricanes and Spitfires.
I have also now ordered allied bombers to hit Mandalay airfield in cover of night. It is intresting to see what kind of a result this brings.
South Pacific, NZ & Australia
Lautem, Luganville, Funafuti and Baker Island received their daily pounding from allied bombers. These actions are consuming his infantry and supply levels steadily.
43rd US Division has now reached Fiji... so they are now unloading their equipment and are preparing for upcoming events.
Otherwise nothing major to raport.
Central & North Pacific
Operation Delfine is coming along nicely.. I have now large amount of submarines lurking around Japanese home islands.
Pearl Harbour is now fully stockpiled to have fuel and supplies... that will make my job easier to supply my forwards bases.

My troops just north of Lanchow are gathering their strenghts...They were down 20/100 when they retreated but are now at between 50´-65 in strenght! .. I'am actually thinking about assaulting the Lanchow base with these troops... he has 4 units stationed there and I might even catch him off guard so to speak!!??
No air raids againts Chungking last two days propably to due with poor weather conditions.

I will keep up with this operation at least few more days... oh, and he has now 16 units stationed in Mandalay itself.

Nothing major happening... 43rd US Division is now safely in Suva and Noumea recieved 70 000 supplies.

RE: November 1942 ends... Allied HQ confident as the new year approaches...
Use the '1' key .. I think that shows the hex terrain .. if it says 'OA' then its and ocean/atoll hex .. well worth checking.
As he cant get supply to efata and noumea ( i suppose ) has he any bases in range that might be flying in supply ? maybe a turn of LR cap from noumea would check. lightnings vs jap transports nasty indeed.
I have been called an agressive player by one opponent and he's probabl right. if i were you .. just load up as much assault as you can at noumea and run straight to efate .. get some slow BB's for shore supression and switch the bombers to port attack to supress the coastal guns .. he must be low on supply and if hes out then hes at 25% combat effectiveness. I ' think' you will just roll over him then mop up for a week and then hit luganville.. no need to risk the carriers at al.
anyway .. ta for the e-mail

December 1942 begins...
Actually, I think he using his submarine fleet to bring in supplies and additional troops. That might sound weird but I have now spotted quite a few submarine TF that has 8-12 subs together... and if my intelligence is right than he has 16 000 troops stationed in Luganville and over 12 000 in Efate.
He does not have any bases where to fly supplies... I think Funafuti and Guadacanal are the closest so that is very much unlikely.
I have been thinking about this a lot... and I guess it is time make a move againts Efate and Luganville. I think I will land Luganville first since that kind of cuts Efate completely off.
This operation Titan will commence soon...
1) I need to bring in Australian division that will participate in landings (they are already loading in Brisbane)... also 43rd US Division will also be used with this assault. I think 2-3 Seabee units should be enough and 1 Base force unit... and maybe to have 1 NZ brigade serving as reserve.
2) I have dispatched 1 Surface TF from Pearl Harbour to the South Pacific... (BB Pennsylvania and BB Tennesee + escorts) ..they will also be used with this operation.
3) Should I use Royal Navy also here too? ...I have British CV and strong BB's stationed in Australia so they could take part in this operation. 1 Surface TF is already dispatched to Noumea and they will naval bombard Luganville when this operation starts.
4) I will bring quite a few bombers, fighters and dive bombers to Noumea and Foa Foa... they will bring sufficient air cover for this operation.
That is the outlook and mindset... any comments?

Japanese forces are now repulsed away from Myithkina... Those 4 units retreated towards Mandalay and this mean that the Burma road is once more open up to traffic.
I have not bombed Mandalay at night... I think that those results did not justify the continuing the operation... well I might change my mind though in near future.

RE: December 1942 begins...
Well, fighters without radar work very poorly at night. P-61 Black Widow, Night Fighter variant of Hellcat and such will actually have some chance to intercept. And I think you need to have radar in base too. Maybe your Chinese base forces have not upgraded yet to radar and are still with Sound Detectors ? If so, don't expect much of interceptions.

RE: December 1942 begins...
As Sadukar says , day fighters on night ops are hopeless. havnt you got a night fighter unit of blenhiems in india? maybe use them instead. also flying night ops will hurt with ops losses and spits are valuable a/c
in reply
1)I find artillery units quite useful in landings to be honest, dont know why they are but they seem great all the same. SeaBees are combat engineers afaik so yes definately as many as possible.
2)Good idea
3)got anything else planned for them ? if not then definately use them .. the a/c can get some experience bombing if no japs turn up. and the RN is very good at night ops if he sends in a surface tf.
4)More the merrier !
Luganville is definately in range of those LR mavis flyboats . and they dont need runways either. If he;s not using them he should .. LR cap it for a turn just to see.
sub will drop off minisclue supply. ignore it , or send some asw DD groups to say hello. If he;s bringing in men hes insane !
DONT forget to send in minesweepers as i would put money on hes using those subs for mine laying. DMS are good .. fast and well defended from subs. make a minewarfare tf and send them up for a look. have retire orders on.
also recon numbers .. that isnt the number of combat troops . i would hazard a guess that only 1/3-1/4 are combat the rest being secondary personel.
The come back has started ! good luck

Thanx again for the comments as always thoughts and ideas are more than welcome!
Well, I actually don't if my Chinese units have upgraded to having radar but this time around my 17 Spitfires flew and made Japanese pay for their night assault! I guess I still far away from having decent night fighters to my disposal.. anyway I'am also reluctant of bringing in Blenheim squadrons since I do want them to upgrade Beaufighters soon as they can... thought about losing them does not suit my future plans. I might change my mind if Japanese are getting too effective with their bombing campaign.

Yeah, dedicated Night Fighters work always better at night. And especially those with radar. One has to check from Plane Database which ones have that, though. It doesn't show in Aircraft Data on Squadron Screen.
One other thing that came to my mind. US have several Tank Battaillons arriving. I use to send them to Karachi since they are not very good in amphibious invasions (you have Amphibious Tank Battaillons later in war for that. But they move quite fast even on trail..and tank units using shock attack are very effective. Perfect for land war in SEAC area.

Year 1943 begins... heavy air to air battles continue... and much more...
Game date is now 2nd January 1943
Thanx for the advice regarding the US Tank batallions!
Sorry for the lack of updates but I have been quite busy in IRL.
The game hasn't stopped though and now the year 1943 has started... also quite a lot has happened since the last AAR update. I guess it is wise to by theatre by theatre and give you an situation report.
India/Burma
Quiet... Quiet... Quiet... Just supplies being shifted and fortifications being build. I have now strenghtened my defenses in India so I feel pretty safe by now.
Only actions has been just few submarine vs ASW battles near Rangoon. Also British PT Boats engaged with enemy TF and managed to sunk 2 Japanese DD's.
Central & North Pacific
Operation Delfine has continued... I have now pretty much my whole submarine fleet in enemy waters. Here are results of this ongoing operation:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 51,48
Japanese Ships
AK Liverpool Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Yugiri
Allied Ships
SS Tunny
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 55,50
Japanese Ships
AK Toei Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

SS Tuna
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 60,48
Japanese Ships
AK Huzikawa Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
PC Tama Maru #8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese Ships
MSW Fumi Maru #2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
MSW Wa 1
MSW Wa 4
MSW Wa 5
MSW Atsu Maru
MSW Wa 7
Allied Ships
SS Halibut
Otherwise a lot of ASW vs Submarine combats reported in Japanese home waters... lucky for me the Japanese ASW isn't actually been too effective. More submarines are enroute to hit enemy shipping lanes.
US CVL's reinforcements have also docked in Pearl Harbour... within few days I will also receive CV Essex so I'am building up my strengths down in Central Pacific.
Australia, NZ & South Pacific
Operation Titan is well on its way... however this operation again has been costly for me!!! Largely thanx to the Japanese minelaying capability!!! Damn... I think I have now lost over 30 ships (AK's, DD's, MSW's and SC's) and damaged quite few others!!!
This sux again... since I have about 75 Lightning fighters in LRCAP and quite a few other airplanes in Naval attack! Suprise, suprise, suprise again... KB Showed up propably from Truk/Rabaul... that was expected happening but what was not expected that my P38's did not LRCAP effectively... my B17's, Liberators (propably well over 100 of them) did not even try attack the Death Star!!! Well... what can you say about these kind of things!!! Bad luck somewhat and I would say game engine needs fine tuning...
Unfortunately the KB has now moved back to "north" or at least I would assume so... since last turn he did not strike againts my invasion fleet... that's sucks also since I would have liked him to stay there and fight it out... those LBA's I got stationed in Noumea would have flow eventually and I think he did unterestimate my strengths there... hopefully he will come back so I can take another swing at the Japanese navy. British CV¨'s along with BB Prince of Wales are now in Noumea! I also did receive my first Wildcat V fighters!

Devastating results but the good news is that FOW seems to play major role here... actually none of my British CV's have sunk... and damage are moderate... this battle fleet is ordered to move into Noumea harbour... hopefully they can make it... I think he is following behind this TF with his full force of KB!
Now it would be nice to see my LBA (B17's, Liberator, Hudsons) actually make an naval attack!!!!!! I have propably around 140 B17's and Liberator set on Naval attack and nothing has happened.... Now I did put all my fighters on Escort duty... hopefully those P38's Lightnings, Kittyhawks and P40E's will make the diffrence...
Next turn will be intresting... either I will suffer my second defeat or than again just maybe I can make him pay....

RE: KB strikes in the South... China sees major air to air battles...
Good to see an update ! missed this AAR ..
I'd say your slaughtering the japs in the air in china ! .. ok he has a lot more than you but the losses overall look better than 5-1 in your favour .. apart from one or 2 bad days ( hurricanes suck vs tonies)
I was having palpitations reading the brit fleet hits .. glad that was FOW .. but the brits vs the KB was a bit hopeful imo.
also congratulations of getting back luganville .. mopping up efate next i assume .. but a long trip to guadalcanal if your planning on that route .. maybe PM ?? bomb the snot out of it from cooktown with your heavies at least.
as to LBA esp. 4E heavies attacking carriers , dont happen much . and its probably quite historical in that regard although frustrating from a gaming view. I 'think' it all hinges on the size of the cap .. and that KB has a lot of cap..placing the p38's on escort is a better idea too . i find LR CAP to be very inefficient and causes a lot of ops losses and fatigue. only really use it for hitting suspected jap air transports.
Also the mines .. sorry mate you NEED more than one minesweeper per taskforce ,, much more .
anyway .. glad its seems to be going your way for now .. i suspect that he tninks the brit fleet is sinking/sunk .. maybe he'll send down an invasion group to get luganville back and you can give him a suprise
anyway .. as ever good luck !

RE: KB strikes in the South... China sees major air to air battles...
Well, B-17Es do attack even KB since they don't need escort. But it's not as common as them attacking other TFs without air cover. They need to be quite experienced to achieve any results anyway. And large CAP can drive them away..but sometimes CAP is depleted... Few 500 lb bombs on IJN CV deck can save the day..or even better..later in war 2000 lb (patch 1.6) [:D]

Allied occupy Luganville base... Operation Delfine continues...
Again, just been busy IRL... new job... new born closing in, etc... here is the newest update on how the war is going.
As you said Rob... I have managed to inflict a lot of damage in China againts his airforce. It intresting to see that Spitfires, P40E's and even the Chinese fighters can inflict such a damage.
I was also "shocked" to combat replay about the Royal Navy.. thank god it was just FOW! I did not have any intensions of attacking KB with RN... the idea was to go ahead againts Japanese mini KB but my intelligence was "foggy" at best.
I haven't decieded what to do once Luganville is captured... Efate would seem obvious target... but whether to againts Guadacanal or Port Moresby or maybe even shift the operational area completely... that is the key question.
You are propably right about the CAP too... I think he can mass over 200 fighters into air so that is propably why my LBA's did not attack.. frustrating but what can you do. Also, it seems that he has retired towards North with his CV's or at lest it seems so.
Oh, I did had several minesweepers attached to TF's but I guess he had layed so many mines that you could walk your way to shore.
Hmmm... that is also an good point Sardaukar... I think that I have my B17's experience wise in high 70's or low 80's.

RE: Allied occupy Luganville base... Operation Delfine continues...
congratulations on getting luganville back .. actually a major strategic advance in securing the US-Oz supply lines.
As to next operation, Guadalcanal is a LONG way from luganville and imo frankly worthless. consolidate noumea and luganville. get more aviation support to luganville and send in a LOT of fighters in one go .. don't feed them in piecemeal. alos makes a nice LR bomber base to annoy guadalcanal.
Hows the situation in the rest of the pacific ? if the canton/pago/suva/noumea chain is yours maybe think of nibbling at the marshall islands .. invade from baker island as its closest. also with the short ranges yo can use slower ships , like the old US BB's
Another alternative would be port moresby .. massive assault from townsville whit heavies from cooktown and cairns flatten the airfields and port .. maybe a bit too adventurous though.
and another idea may be timor ?? i guees it would suprise him and if to send the ships up from perth he'll have no clue your coming .. you can recon from broome easily .. hudsons can reach koepang and give you some ides of enemy strength but much better to use F5's if you have any locally
also i'd recon everything you can so you dont give away any clue as to your real intentions.
Timor is close to N australia so damaged ships can retire and sort out flooding locally before u send them to the yards at Perth. may take a while but marching troops up to darwin/broome .. the others too would probably not be noticed by the japs either and those bases can support a LOT of allied airpower ( quite big)
anyway just my 2p worth
numbers are crushing u in china .. i guess there isnt much you can do except extract as heavy a price as you can . and frankly your doing a good jot at than
As ever good luck !

Operation Titan ends... February 1943 starts...
Thanx Rob... Luganville is essential as now I have secured my supply lines to Australia... Only Efate remains in Japanese hands and I will invade that small island soon enough. There is also a small recon base (Norfolk Island) and that has to be dealt with soon too.
Pago-Pago, Canton, Palmyra and Fiji's are safely in allied hands... so he does not have any vital forwards bases left there.
Hmmm... Baker Island could be useful... I have actually flown recon planes towards that base and it seems he has stacked 11 Units to that small Atoll. That is somewhat concerning... also he does have KB around (propably somewhere near Truk) ... or at least I think so and that makes this kind of operation dangerous at the moment.
Port Moresby... I would love to invade this base but I think it is too adventorous... He has way too many operational airfields in the area and those bases have to be dealt with before this kind of operation begins.
Guadacanal... yes, it's a long way from Luganville/Efate islands... but I think I should take these bases sometime in the future... since these bases can be used as jumping board towards Guinea and that is one obvious target...!
Timor... I think this operation could be done... but it requires quite a lot of time to get this kind of operation rolling... and I think I would have commit my CV's at least partially. Intresting idea...
Burma... This is one of the ideas I have been thinking... I really would love to do this... it would relieve pressure from Chinese and clear the way towards Malaya peninsula and thus making oilfields in DEI region in danger. Only problem is that I do not have any clue what kind of forces 200 000, 300 000 or more Japanese have there?!
..yeah... not much I can do about Kumming nor Yunan.. those airfields will remain shutdown.
Game date is 30th of January 1943
China
Japanese airforce has kept bombing the airfields at Kumming and Yunan. No major air to air combats have been fought.
On the bright side of things... Chinese bombers have upgraded to B25J's... that does give a lot of new options.. should I start bombing campaigns of my own or still use these AC's as supply shifters.
Also, nothing to report from ground... it seems that everything is quiet and maybe just too quiet!
Burma & India
Quiet as "usual"... as said above I would like to destroy all the Japanese forces occupying Burma but unfortunately I don't know what kind of strenght he has here... and it is propably too soon since it's only beginning of 1943.
Otherwise, nothing major to report from here.

Central & North Pacific
The Japanese navy has increased their ASW strentghs near Japan... this is due to the fact operation Delfine has proven to be somewhat effective.
