Premature end of war

Post by AlvinS »

I am fairly new to this game. I have heard of the Premature war end bug, but after a search I could not find any information on it in the forum. I have version 2.2 and was playing the Guadalcanal campaign as the Allies. The game ended on 8/30/42. I had just landed the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal. Japanese kills were 97, control was 21880, production was 3195*, and total score was 25172. The Allied kills were 48, control was 14910, production was 13560 and total score was 28518. Does the 2 to 1 victory conditions mentioned on page 53 in the manual apply to the total score or the number of kills? If it is the later then I lost 2 to 1, if not then maybe its a bug. Any ideas?

AlvinS,

The information is out there, I was probably the first to report it in v2.0, and even metioned the problem in the V2.2 Bugs thread.

Rich Dionne made a patch for this problem back last year. Search out the thread for "Temporary Fix to Premature War End" created on November 30, 2000. There is a link on this thread that will take you to Rich's web sight.

After you download the patch place it in your Pacwar folder, and execute the file. This will allow you to open any saved games with a premature endings.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will download it and try it out. It sure gets your attention when its only the third turn and you lose.

Yes, it is a real downer when that happens in the first few weeks of the war. I think when Matrix made the new version, the Japanese aggressiveness is a bit lower in the first few moves compared to the original; thus, not racking-up the number of victory points as usual. But what the hey, I'm not going to jump-up and reinstall the original, becuase Matrix has done a damn good job on the v2's.

Happy Warring,

Can someone tell me if the "The Allies drop their demands for..." end of war screen always appears at the end of the war? Or does a different one show up depending on the final score at some date? In my most recent game, my final score exceeded that of the AI by over 40,000 points and the game finally ended in early 1946 with the "The Allies drop their demand..." end of war screen. As suggested by others, I downloaded the premature end of war patch, placed it in the C:\Pacific War The Matrix Project directory and ran it on savea. But nothing happened. Is the game then expected to start up again? Or is the patch really only used when you actual get a premature end to the war in the Dec 1941-Sept 45 timeframe?

The War automatically ends early in 1946, so, if the Allies haven't won by then, they offer a peace settlement to Japan. That is why you cannot reload the game. Hope this helps.

Although you were leading by a large margin, you need to have over twice the score of your opponent to win. As an Allied winner, the message is: "Allied forces have won a decisive victory, the Japanese agree to an unconditional surrender". As a Japanese winner, the message is: "Japanese forces have won a decisive victory, excessive losses have forced the Allies to the peace table".
