Mixed order fixed?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Mixed order fixed?

Post by carburo »

Did the patch fixed the mixed order upgrade? I haven’t seen any difference.
Is there any way of changing the upgrades you start with? Maybe one of the text files. I went through some of them but couldn’t find anything. I'd rather get rid of it at the beginning and forget about it.

Well
the mixed order upgrade is fixed

hassle is, the damage done does not show, only the damage the unit with mix order takes

on the list to be fixed

Thanks.
And no way of not getting the upgrade at the start when playing France, isn’t it?
Not a game breaker, but it’s really annoying having an “upgrade” that makes your inf the worst in the game.

Well from what I understand and sort of see in my games, it is what makes the French Army good, to start with, they can form LINE, and if they fire at a unit next to them, and either break the unit, or the unit is already broken, they will have a chance to also charge after the fire is done

the hassle right now is, we get the report of the kills by fire for both sides, but only the report of charging troops killed, is showen, not the report of the target unit

I have seen a enemy leader killed during the Charge, so damage is being done

it is a chrome bug, it works, just does not report right

If you really want to change it, it is configurable. In the "Crown of Glory / Data" directory there is a file called "players2.txt" that defines most of the starting attributes for each nation, including the military upgrades. If you open it with a standard text editor, the columns don't line up quite right because it is tab delineated and the textual headers are longer than the values. But if you count the entries, you can get to the settings you want. As you can see in the file, up to 8 upgrades can be assigned to each nation. To make matters easy, I edited the file to remove that upgrade from France for you. Just put the attached file into the proper directory (Crown of Glory/Data) and I think you'll get your desired mod. Good Luck!

Got it. I thought you were being ironic the first time.

So, if I see two numbers rising from my unit it’s that they charged after firing. Good to know it’s working, even if I’ve to guess how the charge went.

I don’t like the upgrade a lot anyway. I usually don’t fire at disordered units, because the damage made is insignificant. In fact, most of the times they win the fire exchange. The probability of firing to the unit next to you and disordering it is not that big, so giving up 25% firepower just for a chance of a follow up charge once in a while doesn’t look very appealing to me. That without considering that usually your unit will get disordered after the charge, and become an easy target it self. But this has more to do with my playing style. It’s good that it’s working as intended.

Thanks for the answers

when this upgrade works, you will fire, and get the double raiseing numbers, then you will get a floating meassge saying something like opp charge being made, then you will see the damage you took, but the message for the other side does not come up (bugged)

early in the game it is not much use, but later on, once you get some decent fire power, it will be more usefull

I do get into some toe to toe fights, and have had a number of these types of fights

but if that is not you style of play, no hassle

I like to go for Arty Upgrades, but they are HARD to take in the beginning, you may have 2 or 3 Arty, and 20 Inf, the formation upgrade or firepower upgrades are more important

Maybe beefing up "mixed order" is something we can do for the next patch -- getting rid of the fire penalty perhaps. Any ideas welcome.

Sounds about right.... losing 25% line fire power does seem harsh for an "upgrade", since (I presume) the penalty applies all the time and not just when firing and charging in a single turn. I do not think you should "beef" it up, but reducing the penalty sounds good to me, especially as it seems to happen so seldom.

jchastain,
Thanks for the file. I'll try it next time the wife give me a chance.

I paid more attention and noticed that the follow up charges never displace the enemy or disorder my units, so my main problems with the upgrade were actually wrong assumtions. However, I still think -25% firepower is too much for what you get.

Eric,
Maybe the penalty could be in place only when firing at a unit you can charge, reflecting the formation adjustment for a possible follow up charge. When firing at distant units the charge is not possible so the line shouldn't adjust and no penalty should apply. Just my idea.

The mixed order is suppose to represent how the division deployed, so the penalty to fire should apply at all ranges. The follow up charge thing is nice, but without the damage reflected, you can see it if you remember to read the text before it goes away, it is hard to tell what happened.

If you want to improve your firepower then take the double line upgrade and you are at +8%, or the Divisional Artillery so that you fire as if two hexes closer when firing from 3+ hexs. Take the target practice ones to improve by 10% each time.

I think this adds flavor to the nation of France, which was not know for standing and firing all day long in nice lines. If you want that kind of army play Prussia or England.

I think what makes it seem like a penalty is that you haveing nothing else at the start that helps your firepower, when other nations do have help. Not only that you have a penalty with the one combat upgrade that you have.

Consider one more thing, when in line formation you take -20% as France so you only loose out by 5% in the total fire exchange.

Mixed order was an offensive formation, when defending french infantry stood in line... or tried to stand in line, lack of training, and high patriotic fervour forced the revolutionary armies on to the offensive... just fire your musket and charge boys

I have noticed with France in the 1792 scenario, that before turn one they have four upgrades, after turn one they have eight.[&:]

Yep, just been double checking;

Prior to turn 1, France has - March Training I, Skirmisher Training, Rapid March, and Esprit de Corps. After turn 1 they "gain" Corps System, Flanking Tactics, Levee En Masse, and Mixed Order. Have a look for yourself.........

Not saying it is a problem, just strange that all upgrades do not show up straight away........[&:]

I've seen that too, wasn't sure if it was right or just a report hang over from another game (report pages not being updated yet)

but yes at the end of the first turn it does change

LOL if you notice, you don't really want to get into a battle on the first turn, the Aus will pound you silly, while on the 2nd turn, you can stand toe to toe with them, with the same troops !!!!

I had not realised that french troops did not have their upgrades, I had thought that one just could not see them all... so french fanboys should not get into any fights on turn 1 then, hehehe[:D]

besides that, if you notice, most of there troops are at half strength or lower, they need a turn or two to get reinforced too

(I don't know if the others are weakened at start also, but have seen the French are)
