Cash for Britain

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Cash for Britain

Any thoughts out there on how to generate a decent income with the Brits in the first turns of a standard campaign?

Depends on what you mean by decent ?

can you make enough to make ends meet ? or do you want to get rich ??

(normally early on, money is easy to get/make, it is middle to later in the game that money gets ruff)

overall would say merchents and taxes are the easiest to change on the first turn

Consider reducing fuedal dues as this really lowers your merchant values. Remember that you loose some National morale every turn that the fuedal dues are being reduced. I am not sure what the speed of the reduction is, but it is not fast on a per turn bases, so make sure you have good National Morale. Once fuedal dues are gone you get mega cash from merchants.

Make sure you drop VERY slowly.... also, if you want colonial divisions do not drop to zero.

Increase your taxes to 20. Send out your Merchants along with 1 ship or frigate escort to the 4 best sea zones you can find (that is after destroying all other hostile navies). Decrease your Feudal rating once your Morale is > 500. Build Banks. Trade Luxuries out of London for cash. Later when you grab Morocco, trade Spice out of Oran. Once you get some cashflow, reduce your taxes.

If you're able, land in Andalusia with 2 Armies and march to Madrid early on when the Spanish armies are off somewhere doing the bidding of their froggy masters. After Spain surrenders grab as many colonies and reparations as you can (and Portugal if they have it). This is probably the best way to score some cash in the first year.

Don't go nuts with your initial $$$. It should take you about 6-12 months to get on your feet so don't waste it (it's gonna cost you beau coup money to ship your troops without attrition).

edit: build 2-3 merchants when you can (build up docks meanwhile).

Apart from the destruction of other navies([:)]) this is good advice for any power...

Personaly, I have only played Britain once, and found myself wondering what to do with so much cash...

I am playing the Brits 1796 and Saxony among other countries have asked me to be protectorate. Saxony's army is quite potent as they have helped me dismantle Prussia in early 1800. As for the cash , I have over 2k gold and can't spend it fast enough. I noticed that rifleman are extremely good marksmen against artilary, especialy if positioned on high ground. Playing the tea loving English is alot of fun. Besides being pretty much invasion proof with their huge fleet, It's just a matter of gaining enough textiles to build more rifleman and heavy guns. What a hoot this game has turned out to be. Also of interest is the way Sweden is handing Russia it's own head. I am allied with them and the Austrians going up against the Russians, Prussians and Turks while Spain and France clobber each other.
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?
