What to do about "quitters"?

Post by Doobious »

I have played 4 PBEM games in the last 2 weeks, and NONE have made it into 1942 without people quitting by taking 4 days to play a single turn. Complete lack of responsibility.

Does anyone know of a good group of people for PBEM play? Is there another website where these folks meet up?

I'm really tired of quitter and stallers. [:@]

Maybe we need to put up a list of "quitters/stallers/loosers" that we should blackball from PBEM play?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Some people, who obviously haven't quite got their priorities right, [;)] have other things in their lives apart from WaW. In a PBEM that's going to last for while, I don't think it's unreasonable for a player to take a few days over a turn now and again. How about a list of people to avoid in PBEM as they're too impatient as well? [:D]

I would suggest a more positive list. A list of the people that are very good about returning files quickly and going the distance. Off the top of my head I could put Flop, Bad Bonez, and BasilHare on the list of quick turnaround PBEMrs.

I agree with MrQuiet. Some people prefer to play faster and are able to do so. To the "good" list of people with very quick turnarounds (only including those I've played with extensively) I would add Aletoledo, who is usually done with a turn before I send it to him. [;)] In the past with him, I completed two consecutive full games to 1946 within about 3 1/2 weeks! 1x1, sajbalk and a511 also have been reliable but I haven't played them as much. In 2x2 games, it's harder to tell why there is delay. Even if 4 players can play one turn every day 6 days out of the 7, which is very good, that will likely lead to an extra day or two delay almost every week (statistically speaking). The more serious problem IMO is if someone agrees to start a game they cannot or will not finish.

I'll also (humbly) add myself to the list as those who have played with me can vouch that I return one or more turns every day - with very few and rare interruptions of only a day or two.

Truth in advertising.

When I list the rules for the game I add" One turn per day minimum"

Yet, in most games that have more than 2 players, 3 and 4 days pass with no turns being done, at some point or another.

If you need 2 days in between turns.... PLEASE SAY SO.

If you see the rule "minumum of 1 turn per day".... DONT join the game if you cant do it.

Touche'! Good one...

But back to my rant... a list of good players sounds like a plan. Shall we start one here? Any volunters to maintain that list?

I haven't as many games under my belt, but I will say: forwarn45 (who is kicking my butt)[&o] and dragonheart are both very relaible to get at least one turn out per day. So, is bobharris@telus.net (cannot remeber screen name now).

I do enjoy the game to stay up late after the family is in bed or arise early, but many other gamers have more of a social life than I.

I am going to go the easier route. Instead of listing all of the players who are good about doing turns, I am going to start a deadbeat list and post it in here.

Anyone who finds a player that abandons a game without conceding, or doesnt do turns nearly as often as they said they would, should add them to this list.

I am going to post some basic guidlines for deciding to add someone or not.

I'm someone who has been out of commision for a couple of weeks now and I'm sure everyone hates me!

I can say that I don't mind when people take awhile to play, because I try to play 3-4 games at once. this really only becomes an issue when everyone is faithful and plays quickly then playing 4 games at once can be a lot. otherwise playing the one or two turns a day isn't bad.

also playing 1v1 games and finding someone you sync up well with helps a lot. it might take you a few attempts to find someone, but when you do they'll usually like to play with you a series of games and you guys can develop a nice predictable schedule.

Although I am new to the PBEM gaming I can understand Doob's frustration. What I have not experianced and do not understand is quiting a game. I have finished my first PBEM game and currently involved in 2 others. Got my ass handed to me by MikeB and Svend on the first one but my ally Wobbly was outstanding in incouraging me to hang with it. It has been along time since I played any games besides the first person shooters and in those if your getting dominated you just quit and find another server to play on.
I really enjoy this game and the players I have dealt with. Just don't run anyone off just becuase they are not a hardcore gamer, instead teach them to be one.

Just my two cents worth..
