Armies Won't Move

Post by Falconius »

I have two armies trapped in Venetia. They will not budge.

This happened after, as France, Austria surrendered to me. I had the Army of Italy and the Army of Naples in Venetia when I took Vienna, and Austria offered a surrender. Now the two armies will not move. Venetia still belongs to Austria, btw.

I've tried several things: tried taking the divisions and leaders out of them, but those won't leave Venetia either. Tried letting a few turns pass, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Another annoying aspect of the surrender: my only peace term was reparations, but it doesn't look like I'm getting them. There is no place for it on the economic screen. Looks like I won the war and got nothing for it. In fact, I lost two armies!

a) Your forces are in enemy territory. Choose "Violate neutrality" and they will be able to move out. After they are out, turn off "violate neutrality" so it stops hurting your relationship.

b) If the enemy don't have the money, they will take a glory penalty and not pay you. If you really want the money, take the debt term over 12 months.

Try violating their territory (right click on Austrian territory and find the violate territory option). The game is supposed to turn this on for you automatically after one turn when you're in this situation but there is a bug and it doesn't always work.

Reparations should be reported in the Treaty Report -- if Austria doesn't have extra money then they may be incapable of paying all of the reparations and they will lose glory in this case.

Thank you both. My armies are freed!

And I guess Austria has nothing to pay me. Is there somewhere where reparations would be listed that I can look at? The treaty report shows the treaty terms, but doesn't mention Austria violating it. Would reparations normally show on the economic screen, under income?

Also, Ralegh, I did take the reps over a 12 month term, but still nothing. Is that unusual?

where are you looking ?

on the main screen, just above the details box, you can pop up a number of reports, ecc, supply, Production, Battles, Chat, rumors, treaties (think I got all of them ?)

this is the place you want to look, under treaties, in fact, with in reason, it is one good place to look each turn

you should see anything that is going on with any treaties being reported here

this page will show you if they can't pay, how much they paid, if they couldn't how much glory was lost and what not

Yes - quite unusual in my experience.

Unless - hmmm - I play at Napoleon level of difficulty where the AI gets some rather huge cash bonuses, and hence can always afford to pay these things off if given a little time. I suppose at lower levels of difficulty, the AI might simply not have the cash.
