Am I missing something?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Am I missing something?

Post by Jarhead0331 »

I'm still getting into the game, but I'm a little disappointed to see that the kinds of military units are not as diverse as I had hoped. For instance...there does not seem to be Highlanders, or Old Guard, etc. etc.

Am I missing something? Or do i just have to use my imagination?

Thanks...

I would look at Old Guard as Guard that has been in a few battles and has higher morale

We briefly contemplated naming a division after the Gordon Highlanders but Napoleonics buffs seemed distraught at the liberties we've taken in conflating sub-divisional units with the divisional level: for instance, that we have "Jager Divisions" and Light Infantry "Divisions" seems to make some people quite upset.

We kept Jager and Light Infantry divisions because there are very good game-reasons for keeping these. Naming a division after historical regiments, I feared, would only make people upset and would not have a very good game-reason as do the Jager and Lt. Inf.

It's quite easy to modify the names of the divisions that appear at the start of a scenario by opening the start2.txt in the scenario folder (or in the Data folder for the default 1805 scenario). Opening it in a spreadsheet is the easiest way to edit them. The third column, or so, is the column of names. Divisions use the default name if they have an 'x' in the column. Change one of the x's in a British division to "Highlanders".

Well, thanks for the explaination and tips on name changing, but as you know, regiments like the Gordon Highlanders or the Black Watch were more than just a name...they were friggin badasses in battle and I was hoping the game would reflect that...oh well...

Thanks...
