Knavey, the "years to come" thing I first thought was hyperbole...then I got to thinking about the rate of play [X(]

Hi Cap Mandrake, I agree this is the AAR par excellence. We're trying our modest best to keep up over in "brink of disaster 3x3 AAR" but, alas, I think we are completely outclassed.

I hope you don't mind if I use some of your general ideas indirectly as inspiration. I actually started labeling some of my "documents" as "top secret" before I even discovered you had been doing the same thing for a while prior.

Oh yeah, and the "years to come" thing... We're currently going at about 1 to 1/2 a turn per day, so I figure it could take as long as 5 years or more to complete our game! It's kind of amazing to think about. And the way the game is constantly evolving with reinforcement units and the like keeps things interesting to the very end I should think. I hope we can keep it up that long!

Funny you should mention that...the skipper of the real PT 41, Lt John Bulkeley, went on to become quite famous and rose to the rank of Admiral

He commanded the boat (PT 41) and flotilla that evacuated MacArthur and his family

Have said before I love your AARs. I also take a look at the real life ships when they cross my radar scope in the game. It makes for some interesting perusing and surfing and you find all sorts of tidbits out.

I just sank I-8 in one of my PBEM games, and ran across a tremendous amount of stuff on the atrocities committed by her captain and crew during her real life cruises. Needless to say in my war, she won't be committing them.

Lewis;

Here is the information you asked for on the possible development of an SBD-capable airfield in the Aru group. With the aid of Dutch landowners, RAAF engineers have identified 2 possible sites, both on Trangan Is. in the Aru group that seem to meet the criteria:

1) Suitable for construction of a 3000 ft runway without substanial earth movement

2) Nearby anchorage able to accomodate vessels up to 25 ft draft

3) Indigenous water for force of 2000 with wells or cisterns

4) Within P-40E range of Darwin

5) No indiginous hostile sentiment

These are Gorner in NE Trangan Is and Kamp Mgabundanke at the southern tip.

Of these two, Gorner ahs a superior anchorage, but Kamp "M" hs a small existing rock and earthen jetty. Both seem to have remarkably low malaria threat.

As you are doubtless aware, the Eastern Banda Sea has become a dangerous place, with at least 3 fleet carriers and one CVL operating nearby. This alone may make our efforts moot. Se attachment
