enemy surrender

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

enemy surrender

Post by mattyb »

Playing as Austria recently i had succesfully taken and occupied two provinces from Turkey, but alas the war dragged on for a very long time and my armies were whittled away. Still in a relativley strong position i tried to get turkey to surrender and cede at least one of the captured provinces. How do i do this. i tried throu the diplomatic screen using the turkey surrenders to austria option but it didnt work, is there another way or was i just to far gone and they realised i was slowly losing ground .At the time i had no troops in the captured provinces so does this count even thou they had the stripes throu them indicating captured. By the way bad outcome, at the end i ended up cedeing a province.
Any help on forcing enemies to surrnder greatly appreciated as this also happened with france having to cede two provinces.

I do not know of any trigger or diplomatic way to make it happen. I think its based on the country’s moral (enemy). So, cause as much damage as you can and take a few cities/provinces. I always put troops in the captured cities. Also, send a diplomat into the enemy’s capital and have him pressure for peace. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure. We'll have to wait for an answer from someone more experience.

A nation generally won't surrender to you unless you take it's capitol for a couple of turns. Otherwise you have to beat the hell out of it, killing armies and fleets and taking several provinces. Check the nation status screen for enemy morale - when it get's very low they will offer surrender. Pressure for peace is lose 60 money or some glory to stay at war - it won't trigger a surrender.

The AI can choose to make an offer of surrender. It usually does so as a result of a very unfavourable comparison of forces (ie. it aint got an army left). Remember that if the AI is at war with a group of allies, it would have to surrender to all of you, and may not be willing to surrender to one of you...

It is a FRF (frequently requested feature) to be able to negotiate a peace with someone you are at war with - whether involving a surrender or not. I sure know that sometimes I would be willing to surrender if I knew what the terms were going to be - and other times when I would have accepted a cease fire if the pot had been sweetened by the freeing of the minor I wanted.

The only dependable way to end a war is to put unbesieged forces into the enemy capital, and drop his morale until insurrectionists force surrender - but they will force a surrender to a random enemy, not necessarily the person seiging/occupying the capital, so even this might take a while.

But capturing his whole army can help too. [To capture an army, have forces of yours - not in garrison, but a single division will do - in every neighbouring area they could retreat to, and win the battle. Without a valid retreat route, the whole army surrenders.]

Playing as GB, I had France offer surrender to me after I destroyed about 3/4 of its navy in a series of battles. No land battles at all; only sea battles. One of the great things about the diplomacy system is that I was able to fashion a peace treaty appropriate to the situation: France scuttled the rest of its navy, released all its protectorates on the Channel and gave up half its colonies. A naval victory and a naval peace.
