I just downloaded SPWAW and put in the most recent patches. I have tried starting the program using the different shortcuts provided. I also have lowered my hardware accelerator. I am using Win XPSP2 and my video card is Nvidia GeForce4 MX. My system locks up (black screen) every time I try to start SPWAW and after getting it unlocked I see an error message saying mech.exe error 0052ea4a

Okay.. I have the same problem. Windows XP, SP2 .. it runs through the set up screens, but dies just before the program boots..My video card is Radeon 7500.

I was working fine until last tuesday, my assumption it was a sp2 patch

Did you try starting SPWAW using just mech.exe

Also, you may need to shut down resident programs running in the back ground. SPWAW is what you would call a system resources hog, it will attempt to use all available system resources.

It takes a little tweeking to get it going, but it's great game

Don't ask me what has gone on in the last couple of days to change things (maybe just shutting down and cooling off for a bit), but things are working fine now. Win anything can be very weird at times. Thanks for the hint though.
