OK...so now on this forum, I'm not allowed to voice my shock over an exhorbitant price tag? I didn't start this thread to get some BS canned responses from a bunch of fanboys...I started to find out, from the developers/publishers, why the game is so expensive...as a customer, who has purchased, lets see...CoG, FPG, Titans, Starshatter, Tin Soldiers: Caesar, and I know I'm leaving a few others out, I have a right to be upset over feeling like I'm being taken advantage over in spite of my loyalty to matrix...

So do me a favor...instead of telling me not to post here, why don't you try to justify the price...

I justify like this: I didn't buy CoG, FPG, Titans, Starshatter, Tin Soldiers: Caesar, and a few others. To me one=one, a couple=2, and "a few" =3

All told assuming and average price of 49.99 for each of your 8 games from matrix, you spent $399.92.

At a cost of 69.99 for the DDL, WitP is the ONLY Matrix product in my library in the last 13 months.

Now, who is being taken advantage of?

By the way, neither your question nor your passion is flawed but your attitude as it comes across to the other members of this forum is.

Semper Fi

PS. As far as Danish beer goes I have to remain fond of Tuborg. I've heard others deride it, but to me it is especially sweet...perhaps it was the 23 year old Danish girl who introduced it to me that made it so good...

Seriously though I think a price of 70.00 USD is fair this game took a lot of research which equates to a lot of hours invested. Granted the eye candy is utilitarian but you do not need anymore I think most people who would buy this game are too old[:D] to play fast paced shoot-em-ups or flight sims car racing etc. We like to have tall cool one while contemplating the destruction of our opponent. The amount of detail in this game is about right I expected this and received it. The number of hours of enjoyment I have received from this game is classified but it has cost me fractions of a penny to play can`t say the same for some other entertainment purchases I have made. Except the Velcro Gloves and Gumboots.[:'(]

When you first see the price it looks expensive, but when you get the game and see how much is in it.. it becomes more puzzling how they did it so cheap.

I can still remember the night I got it downloaded.. I just stared at the screen while scrolling the map around.. now and then clicking on an icon and cycling through the unit displays, only pausing occasionally to wipe the drool from my chin.

Let me try and answer the question. The market for WITP is small and the developers must make a return on their investment. Its simple economics. If the game had the potential to sell several million copies like some of the X-Box games, the price could have been reduced due to volume sales. Sadly, the sales base for WITP is relatively small; therefore the price goes up. The developers had to strike a balance on making a profit and not overpricing the product. They settled on 70 bucks. The strategy was that the "fanboys" would accept this price because of the quality of the game and the longevity of the playtime. You've seen the post, when you calculate how many hours you will be playing verses the cost, it works out to a fraction of a penny per hour. You can’t get a better deal on entertainment anywhere else. I’m sure they hoped word of mouth would bring in a few sale as well as Matrix costumers reading the boards. Which I think it has. The price was not set to gouge anyone. Hope this answers your question.

Thank you...thats all I was asking for...I don't agree with the logic, but thats not the point...I see the argument, but from my perspective, lower the price a little and more people will buy it...plain and simple if you ask me...at a price of 70-ish bucks, you are only going to sell to the "fan boys"...why limit the customer base...it just doesn't make sense...I want this game, but not at that price...period...

And responding to that with a "Well then don't buy it..." or a "Don't let the door bump you on the arse on the way out..." is just disrespectful and infantile and not something I will tolerate...hence my responses...if it got out of hand I apologize, but I felt entitled to a serious response to my legitimate concern and I've gotten it...thank you again...

Well, word of mouth from the Il2 Pacific Fighters forums is what brought me to WitP, and I'm quite glad I heard it. Admittedly, I was taken back a bit when I saw the tag, but got it anyway, and yes - WitP is worth every penny!

Actually, what disappoints me is how much the could have gotten for free. Check the OOB thread, had they asked or given other some minor incentive, they could have gotten the OOB for peanuts, and spent the extra money on the engine or debugging. What drew me to the game was the concept of an engine that could handle a war at the operational level. I'll admit that there aren't many competitors on that front, but that is a far cry from saying WITP got it right.

There won't ever be any market for non "fanboys" because of the scope and complexity of this game... Therefore the price is set fairly high to cover the costs of development. No matter what price it's set at, only grognards are likely to be interested in this game.

Sorry, but that isn't correct. Check the number of people who were angry enough about the price to post about it. Assume that for every that posted, there are many who didn't...
