Bombur vs leehunt 27. Playtesting Bombur´s Guadalcanal mod v0.52

Post by Bombur »

-Here are the changes to my Guadalcanal mod. I considered the first version a half success.

Guadalcanal experimental changes
v0.5
1-All bomb loads multiplied by 0,454 (so max bomber load in the screen is expressed in kilograms), except Avengers (800kg)
2-All aircraft ordnance weight multiplied by the same factor, except the torpedos (798)
3-Max AF size downsized (max. possible now is 6)
4-Didn´t change loads for Soviet aircraft as they don´t take part in the game
5-Bombload for naval attack was decreased for a max 4 bombs for all level bombers able to carry more
6-The 18in Mk12 torpedo now has a load cost of 681
7-Starting AF downsized (no airfields bigger than 6 and no SPS bigger than 3)
8-Durability for Nells and Betties decreased to 28
9-Corrected bombloads for each squadron of level bombers
v0.51
1-Shortland starting AF size increased to one
2-Accuracy for depth charges decreased by 50% (rounded to higher)
3-Effect for depth charges decreased by 50% (rounded to higher)
v0.52
1-Aircraft guns effect decreased by 1 for all guns. This has the objective of making air combat less bloody (an idea that originally came from Nikademus, althought he had another approach to accomplish that objective)
2-Betties and Nells had durability increased to 32. Those planes became virtually useless when durability was decreased to 28.
3-ASW devices accuracy was further decreased by 50% (rounded to lower). Damage was decreased again by 50% (rounded to lower)
4-Payload of 307th bomber group corrected to 4 x 500lb for naval attacks
5-A6M2 replacement rate increased to 20. A6M2 now upgrade to A6M3.
6-Replacement rate for A6M3 increased to 40. A6M3 now upgrade to A6M3a.
7-A6M3a replacement rate increased to 30
8-Kate replacement rate increased to 15
9-Aichi D3A2 created. Starts to replace D3A1 in Aug 42. Replacement rate set to 16
10-Val payload increased to 1x250kg and 2x60kg bombs
11-Betty replacement increased to 18/month
12-Supply and fuel in Lungaville decreased by 50%
13-Supply and fuel in Noumea decreased by 50%
14-Daily supply and fuel arriving at Noumea decreased by 60%
15-Daily supply and fuel arriving at Truk decreased by two thirds
16-Starting supply and fuel at Brisbane decreased by 60%
17-Daily supply and fuel arriving at Brisbane decreased to 1000 each
18-Replacements for Oscar I only starts to arrive at 12/42, and are increased to 25

Guadalcanal falls

Post by Bombur »

-Guadalcanal fell easily. Betties from Rabaul attempted to attack the enemy ships, but, as they were carrying bombs, there were neither enemy ships hit nor Betties lost. The enemy started to pund Buka with heavy bombers despite the AF in Port Moresby isn´t adequate to base those monsters. Mor heavy bombers attacked Tulagi. Gilli Gilli was bombarded by light IJN naval units, with good results.

-More air action today. Thirty nine Betties escorted by 20 A6M2 attacked Port Moresby, in order to neutralize the level bombers. Thirty P-39´s scramble to defend the airbase and suffered heavy losses. Ten P-39´s were shot down but the allied fighters were able to destroy 2 A6M2 and 2 Betties (intel data). Another assault on Tulagi wasn´t successful. B-17´s are still pounding Buna.

Banzai charge in Tulagi

Post by Bombur »

A note: Despite what I wrote, Betty replacement still at 12/month. It was my mistake, I wrote it in my *.doc file, which lists the change, but didn´t change it in the file. Will be fixed in 0.53.

-Today, enemy heavy bombers started to attack Lae. Only two A6M2 intercepted a big raid, escorted by 43 P-39´s. Despite outnumbered 20:1, the Zeros were still able to shot down two P-39´s before they were also destroyed. More two Zeros destroyed in the ground and one B-26 shot down by flak. It´s possible that we will be forced to evacuate Lae. Meanwhile, a desperate attempt to push the Marines back to the sea in Tulagi resulted in massive losses for Japan.

Bloody combat over Lae

Post by Bombur »

-Lae was attacked again by 60 level bombers escorted by 23 P-39´s. The enemy planes were welcomed by 5 fighters from F1/Tainan Daitai, the best pilots of the empire. Five P-39´s and one B-26 were lost, while all the Japanese planes returned safely to their base. Another two bombers (1 B-17 and 1 B-26) were lost to flak, in the worst day, up to now, to enemy level bombers. Meanwhile, the Japanese soldiers in Tulagi are being slowly anihilated. In another report, an E7K2 claimed to have hit an american sub.

-note: another mistake. A6M2 replacement rate was not increased. Also to be fixed in v.053.

-The 5th Air force today scored an important victory over Japanese A6M2. Level bombers escorted by P-39´s were attacking Lae again adn were intercepted by 5 A6M2. This time, five Zeroes were lost (three shot down by the P-39´s plus 2 operational losses), at the cost of only one P-39 shot down by Zeroes. However, two bombers were lost to flak from Lae. In another development, Japanese DD´s located and damaged a USN near Shortland. The sub was hit by 3 depth charges, but didn´t sink (hopefully, the mod is working...)

Stupid Betties

Post by Bombur »

First ship sunk. An USA submarine had the bad luck of finding the Tokyo express in shallow water. She took no less than 7 depth charges (where are my changes in accuracy, btw???). More air combat over Gilli gilli. Zeroes from Rabaul escorted Betties against that base, defended by Kittyhwaks. The Zeroes easily won the combat(6:1), but the noncombat losses of more 4 planes (2 Irvings and 2 Zeroes)eventually resulted in a draw. Add to this the two Betties lost after some brilliant comanders, just arrived at Truk, attempted to bomb allied ships in Tulagi and the day was not particularly good to Japan.
Btw: 66th naval garrison didn´t get reinforcements (still 24 SNLF)

-Lae was heavily attacked by enemy bombers while IJN ships were unloading reinforcements to that base. The raids were heavily escorted by P-39´s and found strong opposition from 2 fighter Daitais. No bomber was lost, but 9 Zeroes and 21 P-39 were shot down. No Japanese ships hit. No Japanese planes destroyed in the ground. Tassafaronga fell to allied forces.
