Planes wont launch from Japanese CVs

Help! I've had a really weird situation for the last 5 turns of my scenario 15 game as the Japanese. I found 2 US carriers north of Noumea and ambushed with 6 of my own CVs.

The first turn of action saw about 50+ US bombers attacking my fleet, and get slaughtered. Turns 2 and 3 saw no Japanese attacks (despite being in range) and turns 4&5 saw zeros fly missions over the US CVs.

We're running 1.6. What's going on?!

Check the number of pilots in your carrier air groups; if they're less than the number of planes, the air groups won't fly.

Do you have your airgroups set to attack a certain target? If they are set to attack Pearl Harbour for example they won't attack.

Really?! That simple. Just out of curiosity what would be the rationale for having air groups that dont launch if there are less pilots than planes? Surely that just means there are a few spares below decks?

I think this was a "bug" introduced when changes were made to be able to stop drawing pilots and planes back in 1.4(?) by using "Get pilot" button instead.

Does anyone have a save where a group "with more planes than pilots" does not fly?

Sounds like the target data set. There is a bug if your carrier fighters have a target set (sweep missions, gound attack, etc) it doesn't get reset when you change them to escort missions. This happens all the time when playing Japan because a lot of carrier fighters have targets set during the initial Pearl Harbor attack. You need to stand them down then assign them to escort/cap missions, this reset the target data.

Could also be out of sorties if the Zeros fly but not the strike aircraft.
