Two types of APAs?

Post by BigE »

I have a problem with late-war U.S. APAs. Some time in 1943, there appears a second listing for APAs in the pool -- so you get, say, one APA listing of four ships and one of six, but you can't ever access the six ships. Can't get them in the APA groups, that is. What's the problem here, am I missing something?

I saw the same thing, mid 1943. My "second" APA group has 12 APA (unchanged for months) in it and no matter what I do, this group doesn't seem to get accessed. The "real" group can go to zero and this one is not touched. It appears to be a code bug and this probably a different ship type that was miscoded.

It does not appear to be TK, AO, LST, or APD. I have seen reinforcements appear for these ship types over the past few months.

I wonder if it is a British APA that we don't have yet? But then wouldn't it be in the darker blue???

Big E,

There is also another type of APA called APA (L). This is a larger APA with capacity of 160 but it is not a Liner. it is not part of either of of the two "regular" APAs pools the "normal" one and the "can't acces this" one. I still think it is a code bug and the 12 ships should either go into the regular APA pool or they were intended for another ship type (Fletcher DDs MTBs (which have stayed the same for many months in my game) or maybe SSs). In any event, It is not something I can figure out and Rich's editor doesn't have any way of accessing the Ship Pools. So we're stuck. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Mike, the version 2.1 of the editor allows to edit the ships in pool. It is the last line in the page.

I found the class type in the editor. It is ship class 172. It looks like it was a leftover Medium
APA from the original SSI game. That game had small, medium and large APA where the Matrix
revision apparently has regular and large plus liners. This was the middle of 3 APA classes in a
row, 171 is the regular APA, 173 is the APA(L) which I recently saw show up as a reinforcement
and then there is 172, the "mystery" APA. I zeroed out class 172 (was 12) and added 6 to class
173 since 173 has twice the capacity of 172. I expect the APA(L) item in the pool to be 6 higher and the "mystery APA to dissappear.

Rich, have you ever seen this before?? I have had very few ship losses and not too many large scale repairs in this current game and am wondering if "accelerated" shipyard availability might have triggered this...
