Rebellious Transports

Post by SKORPIO »

I've just started a new game, it's late Dec. 1941. There are 42 AK/AP's in San Fran harbour just rusting away, watching the world go by, not a care in the world. I've just been hit at Pearl and l'm trying to organise 12 ship convoy's from the West Coast to Pearl and Johnson, but the 42 rusting, rat infested, rebellious transport's just don't want to play. I assemble them in said convoy's, set their destination, order them to load supplies and wait for them to sail offinto the sunset. BUT THEY DON'T. Come my next turn they have disbanded themselves and are sat merrily rusting away in harbour again. Grrrrrrrrrr.

I bought this game when it first came out and l love it. l don't understand 95% of it but that's the beauty of it, l'm always learning something new ever day. Only imbeciles can say they haven't got their monies worth, l will be playing this game every day till WIR appears and even then l will return to it now and again. What l don't understand ( and theres a lot ) l put down to FOW, it helps even things up against the Al.

Anyway, back to these rebellious transports, l need to know how to make them obey orders and start earning a living.[&:]

Do you have auto convoys on? I would recommend turning it off because it's not very useful. It will often form up transport TF and send them steaming right through enemy territory.
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

There's a bug that causes this when you have auto convoy system turned on and any zone under computer control.

Either turn off auto convoy or put all zones on human control.

You can send supply transports (AKs and /or TKs) from San Francisco anywhere you want when you combine them with troop tranports (which must be loaded with troops).
This is how I replenished the whole South Pacific Theatre. Anytime a new LCU for SoPac or SWPac arrives in San Francisco I form a TF with the APs needed to carry the troops, and then add a whole bunch of AKs and TKs. This also works with TFs which transport A/C for SoPac or SWPac.
If you're bothered with the speed of the slower AKs you can seperate them from the TF one turn after the complete TF has left San Francisco. They still will go wherever you send them.
Because SF is such a huge port the delay to get the troops out of SF because of the loading time of the AKs isn't that much of a problem. They load pretty fast.

Edit: I should note that I have most zones under Computer Control (except SE), and Auto Convoy is On.
