some action in the air.
A big supply/troop convoy from the US will arrive at Noumea soon - including 12 PTs.
Still several enemy subs between the US and Hawaii, my TFs seem unable to find and sink them.
Mining missions at Wake and Midway reach a satisfying level with around 500 mines each. Soon I will move some of the minelayers southwards.

near future plans

Post by wernerpruckner »

okay - no more CR copies !!

Batavia is now more or less emptied from all A/C. I moved them south and disbanded whatever there still was to disband and combine!! Some of the units lack the range to be moved to safety [:(]

future offensive plans:

biggest will be the attacks via Aleutians - Buckner´s dream.
It should start with the end of March, but it also depends on the readiness of my bases up there.
I think that I will use:
at least 2 CVs, 4 BBs, 10 cruisers, 20 destroyers, all DMS, all APDs and 2 DMs and a few transports.
10 days before this will start 20 subs will go up there for scouting and minelaying.

but I need a second ( or even a third operation !) as diversion !!

- something in the south ?? I can move a lot of stuff there. At the moment the US Navy has 2 BBs, 6 cruiser, 14 DDs, one lone CV and several subs there. Also not to forget the British, Dutch, Australian and NZ Navy forces. Only weak point is that the supply line is very long and not yet defended as it should be.

- or maybe an invasion of Marcus island ( no troops there at the moment ), but this is too close to the north; but it is also close enough to Wake and Midway.

any ideas ??

Steven makes a new holiday resort around Batavia:
a holiday destination for moon landscapes

With the +/- 90 days schedule of my units I hit probably the worst possible for many units - especially in India. In the game vs irishman I have at least 1/3 more troops and air units at tje smae time. The Wellie unit is still out for 50+ days.....

I refuse to play with the variable arrival.

In the real war they knew what was coming and when. Its not as if some one would walk into Nimitz's office and say "Suprise Chester, an aircraft carrier just got finished in San Francisco, no one told us about it, but its on its way!"

Also random elements of this type lead to unbalanced games. Never, ever randomize reinforcements, its always a bad design decision.

Hi Tom,

you still know/see when what is ready!!
it is only a bit hard when you know that you usually have that unit and in this case it will be out of the game for 40+ more turns....

02/08/42 - Shoho damaged

Post by wernerpruckner »

Steven tried to attack Darwin this turn and slaughtered some Wirraways.
But also my Aussie pilots did a great attack against the well defended
Carrier Task Force. They put one bomb into the Shoho - she is reported
to be on fire
This attack cost me 5 Hudsons and 5 Wirraways - but at least it seems that
the Shoho is damaged.
Now a few subs will move into the projected path - either Truk, or more dangerously
Singapore, which will probably fall soon.

One more division is moved to Alaska for the future operations.

02/09/42 Darwin bombarded

Post by wernerpruckner »

A nasty bombardment attack against Darwin - A/F heavily damaged [:(]

Steven has taken Pagan base - I pulled out my units before, I will get a bunch of new units in India in 30+ turns.

I will stop most of the sub missions now and pull them back to their major bases - PH, Seattle, Anchorage, Sydney, Sri Lanka.
I will wait till most of them are repaired and than I will start some nuisance mining missons.
Except the PH and Seattle subs - the will wait for the start of Operation " BEEHIVE"

Not much to say about the last two turns:
Changsha is now in enemy hands [:(] and one Japanese sub sunk

other than that I try to find the KB and the MiniKBs. Once again I do not know where they are.

PT-32 is still alive and sailing ( no fuel left ) to DEI, once again attacked by Sallies - all 4 Sallies damaged [:'(]

02/14/42
PT-32 was once again attacked by Sallies ( two more Sallies damaged ) and continues her long journey to a port with some fuel !!

I think my little PT is starting to annoy Steven [:D] - it damaged 10 Sallies in three turns and got no scratch back !![:'(]

PT-32 lost

Post by wernerpruckner »

turns 2/15/42 to 2/19/42

PT-32 was able to sail two more days before she was sunk by a Zero unit with a total of 48 shell hits and a bomb.

Only one enemy ship was damaged: SS-I172
This Japanese sub was foolish enough to attack a well protected convoy [:D]

A lot of bases were lost during these days:
Hansa/Medan/Singapore/Naga/Mandalay

A look at my deployment of major forces:

2 CV´s are in the PH area ( one at sea patrolling and the other resting and repairing at PH )
Wake and Midway are protected by major minefields (500+ each) - each will get more of them ( one ML and 3 DM´s are used for mining those islands ). Also on both is a huge stock of supplies and fuel for future operations.
A small PT squad (3xPTs) are at Wake as surprise.

On the supply train way from PH to Australia 4 more islands are build up as ASW bases for LR A/C.

1 CV is now at Noumea with 2 cruisers and 10+DDs as well as several tenders. I try to build up this place as future major hub for operations.

NZ - not much changed there, everything is strengthened and build up, but I need some supply soon!!

Australia:
many damaged ships in the major ports ( Repulse, 6 cruisers, 10+ DDs and many transpos with 20+ damage), but also two major fast reaction SF TFs with 3 cruisers and 10+DDs each.

DEI:
nothing I can do here :( - except to pull out some A/Cs.

PI:
still hold 2 bases, but is only a matter of time...

Burma&Ceylon&India:
I retreat to a smaller protected line ( 4 divisions waiting here ), also concentrated 6 Hurricane and 6 Blenheim IV units here.

Coastal sites in India have now all troops on site and the defence is build up.

A MSW and a PT unit are in Diamond harbour for emergency usage.
Ceylon is the major naval base - 3 BBs, 1 CV, 3 CLAAs, several DDs and also several auxilaries are based there.

And now to the place of the first planed Allied action: ALASKA
I still move LCUs up there as well as some more Air units.
I think I will wait until Anchorage is a 8/8 base ( at the moment 7/7 and building up)

Steven is bombing Batavia and Soerabaja with heavy forces each day - no resistance in the air anymore.
The only air units left in the DEI are a few recces and short ranged fighters resting on Bali ( I have 7000 supplies there )

In China AVG made an appearance [:D] :
Day Air attack on 72nd Chinese Corps, at 49,30

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 7
Ki-51 Sonia x 18

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 20

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 7 destroyed
Ki-51 Sonia: 13 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 2 damaged

I do not think that Steviebay liked that [:D]
By the way - still no A/C type has reached 100 lost A/C ( but it is close Zeros and P40s are at 98 )

In these three days the Japanese troops only captured Madang - it is too silent !!!

I hope that Steven is going for DEI and Burma/India with full force ( maybe Australia ), as far away from Alaska as possible [8|].

One B-17 was moved to Johnston island from Pago Pago as a replacement medium bomber squadron moved there.
Only a B-17 squadron is left in the south - and this unit is resting. All other B-17 units ( 4 groups ) are either in Alaska or on Hawai and surroundings.
This turn I recognised that I have emptied PH to much - only 60 air support left. I need to move something to Hawai ASAP !!

The Americal Division was loaded onto transports the last few turns and will move to Noumea as main LCU there.

Subs from Australia started to mine GiliGili and surroundings.
Subs from Cylon mine Rangoon and the northernmost bases in the DEI that are still in my hands.
Subs from PH are mainly on scouting patrols from Japan to the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands.
In Seatlle 10 subs are resting before going to mine the seaways in the Kuril Islands.

one Allied ship sunk : TK Cathwood ( 4 torpedo hits in two days by SS I-4

one Japanese ship damaged - APD-34 near Lautern by Hudsons
and also a sub SS I-7 damaged.

Stevens forces were busy in some areas:
Mersing, Siador, Lashio,Myitkyina bases captured

and the first base re-captured: [:D]

Allied forces CAPTURE Butuan base !!!
Steven left no forces there - a second unit will join in a few days [:)]

Still heavy bombing against my poor Dutch forces in every turn.
A Japanese AP ( Hukuyo Maru ) finds a mine near Kuala during an Invasion and 4 days later also AP Izan Maru finds a mine here ( onky small Mk10 mines, because only subs made mining missions here ) - both ships are probably only scratched.

KB is still missing.

Still sometimes a few annoying Japanese subs around PH.

Japanese forces CAPTURE Roti Island, Kuala, Sawu Island base and they also re-captured Butuan.

During these turns my subs started to visit northern Japan - a part of them are on sub patrol the others will mine some ports.
Also a pure DMS TF and a bombardement TF have left Anchorage and will visit Paramushiro Island. From a few recon flights I know that he has some recons moved there.
Maybe this will provoke some reaction.
And than we will see if a few heavy bomber groups can cause some damage ( 3 B-17 groups are in Anchorage, several mediums are at Dutch Harbour and Kodiak as well as several fighter units ) - as Naval forces there are a flotilla of 12 PTs, 4x BBs, 2xCAs, 1xCL and several DDs.

In the Central sector I am still using 4 DMs for mining operations ( mainly Midway and Wake ) - other than that several ASW groups and supply transport TFs ( Midway needs 6000 and Wake 2500 supply!!) Also there is always one CV group at sea.

In the South ( main base for the Americans still Noumea) there is mainly a big need for fuel and supplies - so of the 3 TFs going there only one is carrying troops ( Americal division ) , the others are transporting supplie and fuel.

The British forces have withdrawn zero ships so far !! [:)]

Repulse is repairing in Australia ( this will take a long time, the damage is still 60 ).

The Brits have two CVs at Ceylon now ( Indomitable and Formidable ) - I will wait for the third one ( will arrive in 62 days !)

It is too silent

Post by wernerpruckner »

IT is quiet - too quiet !! What does Steven plan for the future ?
Only medium Japanese Sub action; only small scale offensive in CHina. His troops seemed to stop in Burma - hardly a movement of Japanese troops there !!
Still heavy bombing of Java, and some small scale landings on some small undefended islands.

WHERE THE HECK IS THE KB !!!
and where are his surface forces ??
I have sent out 10+ subs from Australia to search the seas from Rabaul to Truk - but no enemy ships in sight !!

03/06/42

SS I-123 sunk between Johnston and PH ( two APDs on a fast transport mission made it [:'(] )
MSW Shonan Maru #7 was hit by SS Gato near Ominato ( one patrol sub for each minelaying sub - and it worked !! )

Japanese forces CAPTURE Hengchow base and Labao base !!

nothing to report except that Steven grabed the undefended Maumere base.

03/10/42
SS I 157 was sunk by some British PGs on the Indian East coast.
[:'(]

Still no sight of any big Japanese fleet.
I changed many of my LR A/C from training and ASW to patrol, but it seems to be nothing out there!!

In the next turns a 4xBB bombardment will hit Paramushiro. Lets see what Steven will do after that.

The invasion fleet for Paramushiro is moved back to Dutch Harbour!! No need to push here, with out long range bombers and CVs !!

I hope I can hold Wake for some time - 2xCD, 3xENG, one INF division, one RCT and two AA units here, and tons of supply !!
Also around 900 mines.

RE: tension building up - Steven goes to Wake

Post by wernerpruckner »

forgot to mention that also 2 of my subs made contact with many escorts ( 12+ ).
A total of 4 subs is close enough to be in possible contact in the next two days. Three more are 3 to 5 days out.
I will try to get as much subs in that area as possible.

I will also try to move subs to the most likely seapaths away from Wake - Eniwetok, Marcus island...
I am sure that some of his transports will get damaged by mines !!

Wake - the Verdun of this game ??

Post by wernerpruckner »

03/16/42:
Steven is continueing to bomb Wake, heavy A/C losses on my side.
Batavia lost to the Japanese hordes!!

03/17/42:
more bombing of Wake, also two bombardments by heavy forces ( at least 4 BB, 7 CA, 4 CL...) but my coastal guns fire back and hit some Cruisers - how heavy they are damaged I do not know !!

On the same day the Japanese forces also capture the undefended Memboro base.

03/18/42:
my PT flottila at Wake tried to attack some Japanese forces - and failed, all PTs lost !!
Several bombardment runs by Japanese BB divisions - the worst was this one:
Naval bombardment of Wake Island, at 82,63

with this kind of fire power there will be not many defenders left to fight !!
At least four 2xBB+several cruiser divisions are bombarding Wake - large force of transports with several MSW also sighted - the landing will begin soon!!
My subs seem to be useless against this huge attack - so far no successful attack run!!

03/19/42:
the landings at Wake begin - Steven forces moved through the minefields with many MSWs, but my coastal guns put them under constant fire:

Steven lost many troops during the invasion, but on the other hand he has landed 3 full divisions and many other forces on this small island ( at least 60k troops )

Also more bombardments against my troops at Wake, but no attacks by KB ???
Has he reconed some of my forces closing in ??
In two turns I will try to go into the fight with 3 CVs, 13 cruisers, 25+ DDs, 10 more subs and four DMs which will try to lay a few mines.

03/20/42:
more Japanese troops are landing on Wake - no minefields left, Stevens MSWs did good work with clearing 900+ mines !!

also once again several heavy bombardments of Wake - so far I have 10k of casualities here !!

but also the land battle is a bloody one:

And my Subs are still without success:

I do not have a good feeling right now, but my TFs continue their way to Wake, I really hope that Steven does not yet know that they are around here!!
