VCR playback don't work

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

We've just encountered the same problem in my current (also first post-patch) PBEM game. It's bit of a problem as you can't see anything of the enemy moves, where fire is coming from or where your artillery drops are landing.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful or anything but I guess the powers that be should know, because it's kinda serious.

Yeah, nightmare!

I am playing Mr Gibbon on one of the provided maps and was looking forward to a top game!

The lack of a replay will mean nothing to people who only play 1 player but I am sure everyone will be tempted by hotseat or PBEM at some point as it is the BEST thing in the world.

For those that play PBEM or Hotseat, the lack of a replay will be a large issue. For me it was the biggest single improvement since SP1. For example in my game with the Spunkster he took a good opportunity shot against some SS of mine with his Stuart V and killed 4, one of my Tigers retaliated, hit and destroyed the main gun of his Stuart. Come my turn he has moved back out of visual range, and for all I know I lost 4 SS to some mortars and never got off a shot.

It is a serious problem I think, and I will go back to V1.0 for PBEM for now I think, and V2.0 for campaign etc.

I'm far from trying to moan really as I think to make one of the finest games EVER available for free is a top thing to do, just popping in mah penneth worth!

Keep it up fellas, thanks!

I agree with the hairy man big time here - no VCR playback is going to cause all sorts of problems, and let's face it - the AI isn't half the test of a human opponent and it would be a pity to see the pbem feature made less workable because of other changes.

Cheers

Is there someone who have an idea if we must wait for v 3.0 to play a PBEM decently, or if a patch is in way to resolve this (BIG) problem ?

A dispirited player...

I didn't realise how important it was to have the replay until it was missing. It has made the game sadly unplayable for PBEM. I hope something can be done quickly to fix it before V3.0 as I think I will have to go back to V1.0 until then otherwise Image

A TCP/IP routine we are working on disconnected the button.

Bye...

Thanks Mike, it's much appreciated. Image
PBEM is the best thing about SPWAW and the VCR replay is probably the best thing about PBEM. Well, in a funny kind of way.

Cheers again. I'll e-mail you a beer sometime.

Great!! Glad to hear about the fix and 2.1 patch....um when to expect it? I will tell friends to download/install version 2.0.
BTW...this is a great game...and the version 2 makes it better. Congrats to everyone involved at Matrix Games.

Hello...

I stayed up all night and finished coding the executable a few hours ago and then went back to work on the free DOS PacWar upgrade.

David Heath is putting the patch together. He probably has a few new sounds or sights to add. I am sure he wants to make it perfect and upload it before announces any thing. We would not want people on the Use Net complaining about our patches. So, we have to wait. I hope it will be out tonight, but don't quote me.

Oh, yes. I added a new screen in the Campaign Generator (the one that makes random battles, not the user defined campaigns). It appears after each battle and allows the player to change the terrain and the 3 armies it randomly chooses from for an opponent.

That way, if you want to play Japan and want to fight the Chinese from 1934 to 1939, you just set all three opponents to Chinese and terrain to mountainous. Then if you want a few battles with the Soviets, you change the opponents to the Soviets and the terrain to plains. Then, around December, 1941, you can change the opponent to the Philippines or British and play a few battles in the jungle terrain. Then, you can switch to the Dutch, USMC and so forth. This allows you to sort of customize a series of WW II engagements using countries not covered by the Long WW II Campaign, such as Italy or France.

Thank you for Your support...

Michael Wood
