And now, for something completely different...

Post by Feinder »

Anybody want to try Scen #10, Campaign 45 aka "Beat the snot out of Japan"?

I have never played this scenario (as Allies or Japan). In fact, I know nothing about it at all (including initial set-up), except for whatever historical knowledge that i have.

You can choose either Allies or Japan. I have only a rudimentary understanding of Japanese industry, but I don't mind figuring it out (I expect an Allied opponent will demolish it in short order anyways). Or if you're the underdog type, I'll play the Allies, and you have fun with the Kamikazes. I do have some experience in PBEM (as Allies).

House rules and game settings are open to disussion. Pretty much, I play a "gentlemen's game'. If you think it's gamey, then it probably is, so don't do it. But frankly, I'll follow your lead. I figure 1-day turns won't hurt anyone (esp since we're not playing the long campaign). We will certainly need to play China/USSR, but I'd like to (somehow) keep things so that it's not a massive stack of units (for either side, I have no idea the dispositions in 1945), that gobbles up everything in their path.

Whatever.

Post here if you're interested, then we'll swap emails.

Since I figure it will be 11 years before we make it there in our team game I would be agreeable to giving it a try.

Which side do you want to play?

Oliver - Side..well, honestly, I dont care but if you ask, I think I will try to handle that allied monster....house rules...hmm, I like all realistic settings turned ON ( sub doctrines as well ) and an gentlemens agreement to play 'realistic' -> no 4 engined bombers being able to make 2 raids in 2 days - one day rest at least (realistic ) no refueling and rearming of ships under port size 3 without an adequate AO/AE ship . PT TF's not greater then 6. ASW TF's no greater then 6.

if you like we can turn japanese sub doctrine OFF to give you some help.

I like gentelmen style of play - for example no B-17 raids at 1000 feet high -> unrealistic

No Allied Heavy Bombers stationed in china - no 4 engine bombers may conduct
Bombing raids from Chinese bases - this to reflect the lack of fuel and supplies the Chinese had to use such planes - This is a new rule I came up with after seeing a lot of ppl base hundreds of Allied heavy bombers (RAF and US B-17s) in china to hit what should be secure rear bases

OK ?

Sounds fine. But I would almost say you're handicapping yourself too much. The Allies -did- base heavy bombers in China later war, so I wasn't going to prohibit that. Or maybe we limit it. Take a look, see how many groups of heavies you have (I shudder to ask). Maybe say no more than one group (maybe two?) of heavies in China (I don't know the historical number).

I know there's been prohibition against night bombing in other games. I don't know the status of this (I know they were tweaking this thru patches). I don't really have a problem with it (historical, esp at this stage of the war). But if you know it's over-gunned, then maybe we'll limit it to one or two specific groups or squadrons.

Basically, I'd just like to see something with a "historical feel".

From your PM, I take you as Allies. I'll take Japan. I'll get you the blank "password" turn out as soon as I get home. And from your timely reply, I should get you the first turn out by Friday night, maybe earlier (I'm expecting first turn to be a doozy).
