I don't know why "one hit-one kill" ability in original ASW model would be better...[8D]. I do enjoy CHS more. I do get lot of hits from patrol planes in original. I fly them either on ASW or Naval Search at 2000ft. I tend to kill lot more subs in original and in Pry's scens than in CHS. Usually IJN sub pool is depleted in 1942..and that's even without using any heavies in ASW.

Anyhow, player *can* do all sorts of weird ahistorical choises in game. That he *will* do so is not sure, little bit of self-constraint goes long way to make more enjoyable game. I myself (since I play against AI, no interest for WitP PBEM, too slow paced and time consuming) use the WitP to learn more from Pacific War and the operational and strategic choises Allied and IJ had. I don't use massed day/night bombings in early war (in CHS I won't even have planes for that), over 6 ship ASW formations or some other things that "game" the system.
I do use B-17s as anti-ship platforms since there are examples that it was used that way. In later war I use B-24s as ASW platforms since they were used that way too in WW II. And Hudsons etc. are viable ASW platforms in early war.
For my entertainment I've started to tinker with radars in game since I think they are poorly represented. To my surprise some stuff that have been left out seem to work very well (aka sub-based air search radars like SD). If others will find my discoveries useful, that's good. If not, that's fine with me too [8D].

Cheers,

M.S.

ORIGINAL: Ron Saueracker

Nikademus was concerned that armouring subs was causing some weird results in ASW, some DC types would penetrate and some would not (a concern because DCs were not designed as a penetrating weapon in the model). Well, I've been running the CHS and the subs (all armoured: 1mm/100' design depth rounded up...so eg, a Salmon class has a max depth of 250', it's armour rating is 3) and DCs are working fine, no weird results that I can see. DCs are sometimes penetrating the armour and sometimes not, about 50/50 it seems. Really adds to sub survivability without screwing with the durability, which throws the VP and production costs out of whack.

I agree with Ron on this 100%..
The people who have problems with this way of simulating different hull strengths are "the usual suspects", (as might be expected)..
