A Halsey free post -Calling all Jap Fanboys!! Some CHS advice.

Post by Runsilentrundeep »

Howdy,
I have just signed up to play Halsey in a CHS game. I as the glorious Japanese would like to know if there is anything I should know about the CHS that would affect basic strategy from playing the vanilla game.

Any insight would be appreicated (and if you keep looking I will have some follow up questions and will open my overall strategy to critique).[&o]

Thanks in advance.
There are only two types of vessels in the water, submarines and targets.

You are going to encounter a 1001 merchant ships trying to flee the PI and South China Sea...try to scoop up as many as possible...

Sure you don't want to wait for the next CHS release with the China changes among others...

Some advice (some are gamey, so refer to your house rules):

Be very cautious with industrial adjustments. Plan engines and planes accordingly.
Supplies are scarce at the beginning of the game.

Increase armament production ASAP. Many IJA divisions start with crappy equipment and start rearming immediately.

Start shipping oil to Indochina ASAP (Hanoi, Saigon and Bangkok are sitting without oil), than to Formosa.

Be very aggressive in China, but do not destroy Chinese units. They will appear at Chungking in 1 month at 1/3 strength. Just kick them out to the forest and leave 1 brigade in the hex to anchor them down.

Use paratroops for assaulting difficult bases. Airdrop halves defenders assault value. Bomb airfields to prevent entrenchment. Ultimate target is Chungking – the place where all the reinforcement arrive.

G5N is a Nakajima engines burner, be careful. Other consumers are A6M, Ki-43, and Ki-49. G5N is a very good base buster, not as good against shipping. I usually keep 3-4 daitais. One thing to consider though, it is the only Jap bomber which has a chance surviving allied AA.

Advanced planes require advanced engines; accumulate at least 500,000 supply by 1/43, you’ll need it for retooling engine factories.

Along these lines, watch your expansion of AF and port also. They burn supplies, and often it is tempting to start expanding things everywhere. Especially in front line areas, sometimes it is better to wait until you finish the ground fighting before starting to expand, given the limited supply you sometimes have in landing areas such at the PI and Malaya early on.
