Win2K ?'s

Post by Jeff Norton »

Are there any of you who run this under Win2K? Have you modified your CONFIG.NT file and can you pass your mods to this file to me???

Getting ready for a new HDD (7200 20GB) and want to load Win2k.

Thanks,
-Jeff

I found some files from a guy in Finland, but I don't think you want them; he loads things like COUNTRY.SYS which you probably won't need. Anyway, in Win NT and 2000 I believe the key is the AUTOEXEC.NT file, rather than CONFIG.NT. You should open the AUTOEXEC.NT file, and REM out the lines:
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx

(The reason is, you don't need network redirecting or protected-mode DOS. I think that removing DOSX is the most important thing--it uses almost 38K)

Then, save the result as AUTOEXEC.PW, and set the properties of PAC.EXE to use the new file.

Good hunting!
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Ahhh....

You'd think an MCSE would know that. I work with this product everyday and it eluded me. Proof my brain gets mushy.

After a week I've had, its no wonder...

Thanks for the suggestion

Capt. Harlock you were probably refering to my files. I use english version of Windows XP and it doesn't seem to create any probblems. But you are right it's probably safer to just REM out the lines you mentioned. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
