Blue screen with SPWAW4.0

I get a "Blue Screen of Death" as soon as I start the game, and need to reboot Win98 :-((
Note I'm not asking for problem debug yet, just a quick answer to this basic two questions:

- as the installation goes flawlessly, can I safely assume the downloaded full version file is OK (got exactly 344727727 bytes, BTW), because it's a compressed self-extractable archive?

- is there any relation between the game language and the system language (i.e can I play the English version on my French Win98)?
