Can't Get PacWar or WIR to Install

Post by JBarrett »

When I run the setup program after the games have been downloaded, it starts and the immediately ends. The game refuses to install. I even tried downloading from alternate sites thinking the download was corrupted, but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help you could give. Thanks.

The installer needs a 32 bit version of windows to run and perhaps even DX7 (not so sure but I couldn't get SPWaW 1.0 to install on my sisters laptop while I was there for thanksgiving, and the only thing I noted was that she only had DX6.1.

Once you get it unpacked it will run on a msdos6.x system. I moved pacwar over to my dos box and was able to run complete sims of the 41 campaign with it running like wildfire.
thanks, John.

I'm running a P3 800 w/ Win98 and 128mb of RAM. I can't imagine its a hardware problem. I'm just just sure what kind of reconfig I can do to get this thing to install, as I don't know what the problem is

Do you have access to these games *after* its been installed, perhaps on a friend's computer? I believe the game would run for you if you could get by the install process. I don't understand why Matrix makes the install process a Windows app when the game itself is a DOS program, never mind all the autorun.exe junk.

If you can't get access to the games after being installed, do you want to try an experiment? I could send you a stripped down PAC or WIR package (after being installed) in an ordinary zip file, without any of the junk. No Windows install program, no autorun.exe front end, and with WIR, no sound stuff (WIR itself doesn't use sound).
Maybe that will work?

Yeah, if you could do that I would truly appreciate it. I'm not sure how large of attachments AOL allows, so I'll give both my emails.

Thanks.
