New Screenshots

Post by Tankerace »

To show off the latest work on WPO, here are four new screenshots:

Image
The Amphitrite class USS Monadnock. Decommissioned in the 1910's in the Philippinnes, players have the choice of using her in the 1922 campaigns. She starts with a sys damage of 40, and will take a while to repair as she would be given a low priority over other ships. Low durability, thin armor, and bad seaworthyness, her four 10in guns still give her quite a punch. Becarful though, a well led squadron of destroyers could spell doom for her.

Historically scrapped in 1923, she is unavailbe in any post 1922 scenario.

Image
A New Zealand Brigade, now with NZ troops instead of the combined ANZAC squads.

Image
The new Corrigedor Fort. Note how now the CD guns have all been assigned their correct nomenclature, to distinguish from British CD guns.

Image
And British and Commonwealth CD guns, with their correct nomenclature. Enjoy!

Thank god, a wargame without a metal theme... at least we are changing to wood. Cant wait for the release. I hope you can do a download purchase like WitP and UV.

Here is another screenshot of a ship that has just made the latest build, the Erebus class Monitor HMS Terror! Armed with 15in guns, she can be used to bombard shore targets, or as a convoy escort.

Hey there,

This expansion looks quite good and indeed accurate. I wish you the best of luck and of course, if I get WitP sometime, I will most likely consider picking this up. However, I have noticed that Great Britain owns Indochina. Shouldn't that be part of France instead? Afterall, The French Empire did own Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos well before Japan took them over. But otherwise, it looks good.

Two things. First off, you are quite correct, and indeed France does "own" it, but its command is under a joint Southeast Asia of British, French, and Commonwealth troops, hence the British flag. This is a necessity of the game engine.

Also, while the forum does say expansion, this product is now a standalone, and now you no longer need to own WitP. And trust me, it will be a lot less expensive than WitP.

Gads I wish I didn't have to look at that font (let alone text on not only a non-white background but a freakin textured background) again. This is just bad design not to mention hard to read. Alas, I like the game anyway. Go figure.

Just curious, could you show a Screenshot of 'my' HMS London?
Is it actually a Minesweeper or -layer?
(just as it is a somewhat special design - fully knowing that it creates an avalanche of such requests if you do [:D] )

London is a minelaying cruiser.

BTW, for Jorm and jvgfanatic, you can see a bit of difference in Tanker's font and my font. This comes from using the -altFont command line switch, which was included expressly because the basic font is quite hard to read.

Very nice, thanks!

With its 9" armor you might be able to send it into most enemy harbours [:'(]
At 18knts you might be in and out before he notices, seeing the short sighting ranges reported in the AAR above [:)]
The 6" guns might also scare some smaller vessels, the torpedos the bigger ones [:D]
You just have to watch that you don't run into one of your own 240 mines in a second run [8|]

Now if only the captain..... But don't you dare to touch my command!!! [:-][8|]

Tankerace,

Please don't laugh [;)], just kidding. But one thing that has always really bugged me about WitP is the position of the exit button on the data screen. You can see it on your screen shot.

Could you have this moved just under the aligned text "Japanese Ships" or "Torpedos" please. If you could pull this off this would be HUGE..

Thanks,

Stwa

You think the data screen is bad, you should have seen what the savegame screen looked like, before it was changed.

Here would be a Stwa version, very simple, also not a full screen. Note position of the exit button. [:)]

That's not usable. It violates a basic design principle of grouping interface elements according to function, and the Exit Button has a fundamentally different function from the other buttons on that screen.

Just thought I would mention to all that is a part of this project. I am sooo looking forward to this sim.

The only thing that kinda gets me is the infernal interface to this thing (WitP), but I know not much can be done about that. The whole thing reminds me of a dos application.

But, if the exit buttons on the data (and also the save) screen can be put in normal places I would be much happier. I also think the save screen could use even more work. It is just too horizontal, doesn't seem to make much sense, etc... If whatever it needs to do could be encapsulated in a 512 X 768 display that would be heaven.

Anyway, Thanks again,

Then put the exit button in the upper left hand corner of the screen like on some of the other full screen displays.

But I would argue that the upper box is a menu, and an exit or back button IS appropriate on a menu.

I believe the part of the screen to which you are referring is a MENU and an exit or back button is probably OK on a MENU.

Menu or not, the buttons still have to be grouped according to function.
