Weight of command to heavy for computer

Post by ArmChairAdm »

I've recently made enough pts to make Grand Admiral. Now my computer freezes up in the middle of intense battles. I've tried all the obvious fixes, streamlining the my hardware configs and correcting any hardware conflicts. Then I used an older player.cfg (the same character) as a Vice Admiral and I was able to complete my battle. I switched back to my Grand Admiral ranking for subsequent battles and it started freezing again. My processor an Intel celeron at 2.8GHZ my video card is a radeon 9200 128 MB and I have 256K DDRAM. Do I need different computer equipment? or a demotion in rank?

Have you checked out the errlog.txt found in the SS main directory following one of these crashes? If you could post it (editing out personal info, if applicable) perhaps a community member or milo himself could point out a solution.

Personally, I'd figure your RAM is low (256 MB, I assume, not 256K), I generally figure 512MB is min for most anything nowadays, and your comp would certainly run better for it. But I'm no expert, someone might be able to give you a better answer.

Thanks Pheonex for the reply, you were right the memory is 256 MB not 256K (duhhh). But the my computer completly freezes up in the game so that it will not take any keyboard commands. Not even CTRL, ALT,DELETE so I have to do a hard restart on my computer. When i've looked at the errorlog it is blank because the program never got a chance to record the problem. I'll probably just have to bite the bullet and spring for A larger ram module.

If it's a desktop you should check the motherboard, you likely have two free slots already and you can get, assuming you know what speed etc you need, a 128MB stick for as little as $10! (tho I dont know if I'd trust a company selling $10 RAM)

I'm back. I've installed a 256 MB module to bring my total memory to 512 MB, and I still have the same problem. I takes a little longer to freeze up but it still freezes. I'm open to any possible corrections.
