Can't continue PBEM-Game

Post by BigDuke66 »

Hi
I just installed my whole system again, because of some Hardware changes and now I can't open the PBEM turn my partner sent to my, SPWaW gives the Error Message "Security Violation!!! Player 2 Installation corrupted".
Anybody an Idea what the hell that means???
I installed it again, I downloaded it again, I don't know what else to do.
Please HELP!!!

Hello...

As per the rule book, you must and can only play a secure PBEM game on a single installation of SPWaW. If you change the OOB or directory or reinstall, you have to start the game over. The reason for this is that players who would cheat would make a second installation of the game, test play the scenario in that second installation and then once they know where all your units are, play the turn in the original installation.

This is not very user friendly, but the nature of security is to restrict and limit what a user can and cannot do.

The bad news is that you cannot finish this PBEM game. It is now corrupt beyond repair.

The good news is that with version 5.0, the game allows the player to continue playing and only warns him that he has a security violation. So, if you save this game until version 5.0, you can finish it, then.

Bye...

I don't think that is the correct thing ...

If I can save a turn to be opened in a game that does not have a record of it's being made (secure files -- save or email)

then that would mean that we can now test play all our turns in version 5
whether they are in 4.5 or not then make our OFFICIAL move later and that play could continue from there!!!! ??

If you start a game in version 5 then decide to continue after receiving a warning that's one thing but to be able to open a secure game turn not from ver 5 would be disasterous for the game as a secure playing game file maker.

further if i could open any turn that has already been completed or corrupted using ver 5 then that would mean that there is no SECURITY feature worth mentioning in ver 5

Mike I think you have arrived at the wrong conclusions.

Can you indeed continue a secure game file from version 4.5 in any future newer version.

Thanks for the fast answer, at least I had only 2 games running, one almost finished and one just started, so is no disaster.
