KONEV game

Game time Spring 42

Svend - Germans
Mike B - Japs
W Johnson - Ruskies
Wobbly - Allies

This is a return game where the participants were on the same side...but with different countries. From my perspective as the Jap...it appears to be a different game.

Germany went through to Spain before moving eastward. I am advised there are some 19 G tanks somewhere on the Russian front.

The Japs are busy gobbling up as much of Russia as the Russian will permit[&o]. From the attached map...this is obviously quite a lot. Spr42, Japs lost a heavy Bomber to R FLAK...in exchange for damaging a rail, and 2 resource production centers. In other action a Jap inf killed a R MIL along with its repaired resource point.

This is likely the highlight of the Jap war on Russia due to the limited Jap economy. It may seem all downhill from here...though in the previous game, Svend as Japan went on to terrorize the Pacific. I doubt Wobbly will allow me the same freedoms.

Winter 43

This game is generating much less frequent updates than a past game i AAR'd ...but then as Jap what excitement can one generate.

Jap delayed the attack of SE Asia till W43...due to concerns about supply. My German colleague was also telling me how everyone KNOWS the Allies will simply send their fleet to visit Japan and cut out any and all future production by the Japs till the end of the game. ie. the JAP ships are by JAVA...with NO supply to return! Game over for the JAPS!

Hopefully, i avoided such a sacrificial early end.

Jap scientists have received some intriguing pieces of equipment in recent captures. It is expected that this will spur development of the military arts.

Numerous allied transport was destroyed. Some land was ceded to the Japanese. Word is that allied countries(notably USA) now have their citizens flocking to factories and army/navy induction centers

Word from Bombay and Sydney is that the disappearance of the Jap fleet has the wealthy and influential displaying their rat like character. Curiously, voyages by ship are all being heavily booked as opposed to lying dormant in port or dry-dock. Perhaps it is the uncertainty of an airplane having no choice but to land...while a ship can scurry off elsewhere should the arrival be tainted by a sense of unwelcomeness.

The Ruskies are somewhat frisky against Japan. While uncertain if they successfully attacked my main JAP army...there is that niggling suspicion that the Russians are becoming paranoid of the JAP visit.

The coming loss of Moscow should reset their priorities.

Mike has unleashed the Japanese on the world but in doing so he has unfettered the Americans. A doubling of industrial capacity in the US instantly rings the bell of doom for the axis powers.

The British have been toiling to keep their head above water and while they haven't damaged the Germans heavily in the first years of the war they have made sure the supplies have flowed to the beleagured Russians and defended their holdings well. Now they have their Atlantic cousins firmly on their side, the Americans can help with the stirling job the British have already managed in keeping pace with Axis advances.

So now, with the US in the war, there should be some relief to a communist nation that is on the verge of destruction. Can the allies make a difference in time? Can the Russians hang in there? Stay tuned and maybe, just maybe, this might be an allied victory!

Thankyou my opponents for allowing for a 2 week house arrest...in the form of limited or no electric power in the house. modems and computers have difficulties without such. Work policies of NOT allowing games on work computers is also a bit of a downer. RETIREMENT....a year away! [:o].

It is good to see courage in one's enemy. The POSTMAN movie had a saying...
Great warriors need great opponents...Patton had Rommel, I get Wobbly. Well,
hopefully "wobbly" lives up to his name and makes a wobbly effort toward Japan.
We feel somewhat ready for his noise.

My support of Germany to continue the attack on Russia has been reduced recently due to the excitement in the SE Pacific. With supplies assured and the homeland protected...a more normal existence is expected to return.

The Rssians have been on the receiving end of a rampant Axis double slam. Reeling and with the loss of Moscow and most of her Army - her ability to resist the encroaching Axis powers is beginning to get more difficult.

At last the Wallies have actually entered the war! Svend had tied by the Western coasts of Europe with a dizzying array of modern hardware and the combat odds for all attempts that the Wallies could make did not seem feasable - but despite Gibralter being included in this fortress of iron - the Suez was still held by the allies. With no-one home in Italy and all the Italian Navy in the Western Med the North of Italy was a simple conquest. Difficult to know if this was some kind of clever trap by the German high command or whether the Italians - with their battleflag of a white cross on a white background - were becoming more of a burden than a benefit in this protracted struggle?

Uncle Joe is also given a hand by capitulating some land - Archangel is handed to the allies as a staging post for supply runs and a place to start pushing back at the Boche. Is it all a little too late though?

Bomber Harris - complaining that his Heavy bombers are accruing technocological wizardry but no flight experience - put pressure on fighter command to escort a heavy raid on Paris. Scores of Luftwaffe fighters rise to the defense of the Reich and it is very bloody on both sides. With total aircraft numbers benefiting the German side this might have been a hefty faux pas by the allies???...

As yet the japanese have not had the pleasure of having much in the way of combat - but the Pacific fleet is assembling in hawaii in order to give them some sport. First job is helping the reds.
