the Battle for Vilna

Post by Hard Sarge »

I have finally taken over Poland as a protectorate, England had them under her thumb for a while, but I was able to free them, then the Sweds took them over, just in time for them to surrended to me, and I again freed them, about 6 months later, they seen the light and asked for my protection

560,000 men at arms are now joining the French forces for Liberty, which of course, means the Russians are mad at me, and DOW

I hope to have a few months to get things in order, and to take away east Prussia from England, before the real battles with the Bear begin

I move into East Prussia and the Russians move into Vinla, so guess I will have not time at all

the Russians do not give me time to from my ranks, I am trying in the south to flank his troops and get into his rear

my Poles are for the most part, well trained troops, but got a few low quality troops here too, my Arty is under par, but will have to do

hmmm, not going as well as I had hoped

my 2 Cav Divs are sneaking behind there lines, but get seen, and are fired on, got a hassle with my other Cav, they are in place to charge as soon as the Russian Cav breaks, but it is holding firm, and starting to do damage to my troops

my 2nd line is formed, and half blocked off, but they are the reserves and protection for my supplies

I got a lt Inf Div in square in the back, more for the fact it is very weak in troops, so out of the battle

the Russian Cav crush one of my Inf Squares !, a good Lt Inf Div to boot, a good charge, took out 3000 men, then it was slaughter as Charge after charge was made, it is close to 1000 men left in this shot

I have been able to move my Arty forward to get a better field of fire, that is a Milt leading the charge

I couldn't wait any longer and send in my Cav, heavy losses for both in this one, and the other Cav you see is from my flank raid, they made the full circle and have come in from behind, tearing up any Russian Inf that is trying to reform

Heavy losses on both sides

a much tighter battle then it may look

this battle all but breaks Russia's back, the next month the remains of his armies try again, only short about 60,000 men, another good fight, but a long line of Inf in line, vs Cav charges, he breaks to Milt, and hammers a Inf Div, but is in returned, pounded

after the retreat, Russia Surrenders

A pessimistic question. Are these goblins and orcs two of the original units you started with? If they are it means reinforcements are pulling morale down as in the 1.1 version, and combat experience is not pushing it up. This is my main issue with the game right now. I hate to see my starting units going from 6 to 4 after getting 500 new recruits, and remain there for the rest of the game no matter how many battles they fight.

OTOH, good to see the new commanders.

ahhh
that pic is from a restart, so those troops have not been in battle yet

that is a good question, most times, I try to build new troops, as the starting troops, do not really seem to be good troops later on, so use them for mop up, behind the line work

could try making a number of Orc Chasers, and then see how they turn out a year or two down the road

Well, then at least new units aren’t elite as in ver 1.1. The rest is what I feared. New units, green from the barracks, are better than the old “experienced” ones, and they lose morale over time, as combat experience doesn’t increase morale enough to offset the effect of lower-morale reinforcements.

BTW, are you getting this bizarre effect that reinforcing a unit always pulls morale down, even if the reinforcements have higher morale than the unit?

to be honest, I had not really seen it working like this, I think the newer troops were coming in as decent troops, and then my training levels were giving me good reinforcements

it seemed like once you got soild troops, and they stayed alive, they stayed soild

but now I got something to watch for

(once you start getting new troops and adding and getting rid of troops, it gets a little HARD to keep track of them, but my current at start Inf are Orc Stabbers, the Mil are Goblins, Cav are Orc Chasers, Arty are Blasters/Swift Blasters, new built troops will retain there names, so it will allow me to follow them easier)
