AIRFIELD WING UNITS

Post by Herrbear »

Units 3245 (5358 Airfield Wing) and 3246 (5355 Airfield Wing) arrive in 1945 at Middle East (299) but are assigned to Central Pacific HQ (102) is this correct?

Thanks.

Yes it is correct.

These are some of the units of "Tiger Force" - a large British and Commonwealth commitment to strategic bombardment of Japan (after the war ended in Europe). I do not know exactly where they were to be stationed - China, Okinawa, ?? - but Central Pacific seems the best command option. Southeast Asia and China both seem wrong. They actually have their own Air HQ (#213) but we decided against assigning the combat units to it (it's not done anywhere else). In any event, the Tiger Force Air HQ would have to be assigned to Central Pacific.

You will notice Tiger Force Squadron arrivals in Middle East (from UK) and Canada. There is even one Rhodesian Squadron (the only one in the game).

Data for Tiger Force came from Phil Bass in the UK, who seems to have left the forum. Too bad!

Phil Bass was kind enough to share his (excellent) Tiger Force research with me back in January. In the last iteration of the (constantly evolving) plan before Japan surrendered, Tiger Force was to consist of 20 Squadrons of Lancaster/Lincoln Heavy Bombers, based on Okinawa, and reporting to the new US Strategic Air Forces in the Pacific (USASTAF) headquarters. But in game terms, Don is correct -- Tiger Force should report to the Central Pacific HQ.

I'm just returned from overseas and have a lot of updating / catching up to do. (I've got vanilla WitP v1.3 on my drive) Have Lancasters and Lincolns been added to the CHS aircraft database?

Have the 12,000 ton "Tallboy" or 20,000 ton "Grand Slam" bombs been added as devices? Two RAF "Tiger Force" squadrons were slated to carry them, and the first load of 100 Tallboys was due in Okinawa in September.

Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
