SPWAW won't run!!!

Post by David boutwell »

I've downloaded v 5.0 and the vid998.smk file and have installed them. What I get is the menu screen, then the intro. video, which then kicks back to my directory, whether I let it run all the way through or hit escape. Does anyone have an idea what I need to do to fix this problem????

Try running it from the mech.exe file?

Delete the steel.prf file. Let the game recreate a new one. Ensure you have at least DirectX 6.1. :D

Paul,

Yes, I've tried start up with Mech.exe. It kicked me straight back into the directory, skipping the intro, which runs when I go through the shortcut. In my directory, by the way, I've got the Mech.exe, as well as several mech files for earlier versions, which are identified as Mech 4.3 and Mech4.4. do I still need to have stuff like that in my directory??

gmenfan,

Where is that file located? I didn't see it in my directory, nor did it show up in a search of my SPWAW folder.

The Prefrence file is in the Save file. Just open Save, find the little prefrence key and delete it. Reboot and start the game

Mark,

The only files that I have in my save file are saved games...

Paul,

I'm running Win 95 with a whole drive dedicated to SPWAW (608 MB of free space). I've never removed any files that were not over-written by upgrade files. I probably have a ton of unnecessary stuff, but SPWAW has always run fine before now.

When I opened my zip file, it opened as a steel panthers world at war folder inside my directory. I had to move files into existing folders. Could I have messed up somewhere??

I think you should have uninstalled the earlier version before.
If you still have the 5.0 zip file, try to uninstall what you have, then unzip and install the new version.
If it doesnt help, well, shouldnt hurt neither

David, don't have 5.0 yet, since I bought the cd and don't have time to download it, but sounds like maybe something is screwy with the registry maybe? Is the download a big zip or a self installer?
