Bug - Purchased Multi-National Units End Up in Limbo

Post by Blue Senshi »

I was creating a scenario using the Editor, and I found that when I tried to put more than one nationality on a side (in this case the Germans with the Italians on the Axis side) the game would allow me to purchase as many formations as I wanted (I had only 50 formations on a side - well within the 100 formation limit), but at some point after I made the nationality change (from German to Italian) and started purchasing additional formations, the game would no longer place my additional purchases on the map. They would appear on the purchase screen and on the roster for that side, but the roster would not show a hex coordiate for any unit in the missing formations. Subsequently deleting already purchased formations does nothing to help the situation. Once this problem occurs (and it always does when buying a multi-national force) no additionally purchased formations for either side will show up on the map. This is more than an annoyance to me because I like to use multi-national forces in my games. I'm hoping Matrix is aware of this problem and does something to fix it.

In addition to the 100 formation limit there is a 400 unit limit. I just tried deploying a mix of Germans italians hungarians and Rumanians and had 88 formations total but reached 400 units. 400 units deployed correctly

We found crashes result when we allow the total number to exceed 400.

IF you do not have 400 units send me a save.

Thanks for your reply. The unit count isn't the problem either because the total for both sides together is 210. However, after reading your reply, I did some further experimenting, this time without mixing nationalities, and the problem happened again. But, there's a happy ending to all this. It turns out that if I go to the roster on the Deploy screen and click on the name of the missing unit, I can then go back to the map and the unit I just clicked on will be next in line for deployment. Left clicking then places it on the map. If I click on the first unit in the formation, the following units in that formation will in turn be deployed with subsequent left clicks on the map. So I can get the missing formations onto the map after all! Even though I obviously shouldn't have to go through that to get all my units on the map and I only figured out how to do it by accident, at least I can create the scenarios I want to create now. Thanks again for your help.

Paul,

the problem of units not appearing on the map occurred to me,too.
I was not creating anything, but simply playing a game.
It happened both in solitarie (custom campaigns) and pbem(recently).
The units have not disappeared but simply put offmap;paying attention you'll see a white line along one hedge of the strategic map(but out of it):here you are yr units!
The only way I found to bring them on the battlefield is to use the next/previous unit buttons and then left clicking somewhere on the map:the unit is placed there.
Then i move it where I want it to start from.
I've a game still running where some units of mines are still showing themselves out of the map;with the zoom all in you can see them on the edge.
I'll try to take and send you a snapshot of the map when back home this evening.

I double checked the scenarios that I'm having this problem with and, within the editor at least, I don't see any units sitting just outside the map, and hitting the next formation button won't bring them up for placement on the map either. Only going to the roster and clicking on the unit will work.

This happens after purchasing, then deploying, then maybe going back and purchase more. Also in custom campaign if you switch maps, they all disappear!! No biggee, just as said, use the n and p button, the next formation will only bring up AO unit.It is a little discouraging at first, though!
