Scenario design help please

Post by BEEG »

Hi, new to the forum. I'm designing a scenario and want to play computer vs. computer to try it out. I can't get the game to stop after a turn to check things out. I've tried hitting a variety of keys, mostly the space bar, but the game goes merrily on. Is there any way to stop the game?

Thanks in advance,

Hard to believe as it might be, it doesn't seem there is such a functionality.

End the game using CNTRL-ALT-DEL. Then back into the game and load the Solitaire autosave. Make sure you set one of the sides to human. This will allow you you to see where your units and the enemy units were one turn previous to the one where you stopped the game. (Or just watch carefully as it plays, you will see boths sides as they take their turns.)
Retreat is NOT an option.

You can also keep pressing the escape key and the game will stop. From there you can go back to the setting, select one side and continue against the AI.
This is a good way to skip the first turns when units move and you can check if all units move as you intended.

Thanks, that seems to work. I need to hit the esc key continuosly but it does end the turn. I'm surprised the game doesn't have an easier function for this purpose...to me, it's an important feature.

Thanks again,

Sure hitting ESC ends the turn, but only after the computer has finished all the moves for the current side! There´s no problem with that and scenario designers are using that for years.[;)]

Good point - I was wondering why hitting ESC at the beginning of a turn wasn't working.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info, Harry & Fradar. Every time I think I know something about this game I learn something new.

The manual says there is a pause function, but it does not work. Maybe Mike Woods can turn it on? Mike?

Wasn´t it the "Pause" key on the keyboard that has (had) this functionality?[&:]

From what I remember from reading the manual, it was either the 'pause' key or the period '.' key...neither of which seemed to work.
