CV's a/c ammo/fuel outfit

Post by Akos Gergely »

I play a lot with UV and I have WitP, though I never tried it seriously (too big ;-)). What I found it strange in UV was that the CVs can keep going until one can feed them with bunker fuel, since the game doesn't takes account of ammo and fuel used by the planes. It's very strange, sicne most USN carriers for example never carried more than 36 torps, which is only two attacks for an 18 plane VT squad!!! I know they had many more bombs, but that wasn't unlimited as well (mainly the larger boms). Fuel is a problem as well.

On the other hand I nearly lost a BB because it ran out of ammo after continous shore bombardment.

So this factor alone biases to the carriers.

Does the developement staff plan to rectify this in UV or in WitP?

many thanks in advance!

I think Kates/Avengers will eventually start using bombs after extended periods of action/at sea....but Torpedo supplies aboard carriers are exagerated....

Maybe You are right, though I experienced various loadouts depending on range and enemy. Nevertheless, a/c fuel was the biggest limiting factor IMHO...

WITP does a better job of this by allocating sortie points to CVs. As planes fly offensive missions, the points are expended. Once there are none, the CV needs to replenish otherwise only CAP will fly.

Originally there were plans to apply the WITP enhancements back onto UV.

Unfortunately it turned out that so many things had been changed that the developers had to admit that UV and WITP are now totally seperate programs and that it would not be cost effective to upgrade UV to include all the new features.

Shame, it would have been nice.....

Cheers,
Reg.

True, but I haven't seen that many instances in UV where this makes much difference. It's probably more of an advantage to the IJN during its initial offensive in the big campaign. Especially if they are invading Noumea or Australia.
