The unlikely appearance of this airframe in the seperate categories of fighter and dive-bomber came about because the fighter design team could only get additional development funding from the US Army Air Corp through the budget for bomber design, hence the airframe had to carry bombs. The A-36 used the Allison engine rather than the Rolls Royce Merlin which powered the P-51 Mustang.

This is an example of the information I'm assembling for the MWiF descriptions of air counters. I thought it might interest the assembled multitudes. I'm trying to assemble the following info for each counter:
* Date it first flew
* Which countries used that aircraft (or a version thereof)
* Where it served (France/Med/Burma/etc)
* At least one interesting titbit of trivia

I'm not that concerned about standard info ceiling/speed/bombload etc since that info is already collated in the WiF documentation.

When you say you are trying to assemble information, I gather that you would like others to provide you with some material. Rather than have that be an open ended request, perhaps you could post a list of the unit/plane types you have done, partly done, and still need information on? That would prevent duplication of effort, and should help you fill in the blanks.

I do a couple of counters every day and I'm certainly refreshing my knowledge of WWII aircraft so its interesting work. At the end of the process there will certainly still be some gaps and I'll post those with a call for assistance. I figure we've still got a few months before the data is needed.

Till then I'd be happy with feedback whether this kind (and amount) of information fits people's idea of what should be in the info screens behind the MWIF air counters. As you (Steve) pointed out there would also be a graphic and the standard info regarding ceiling/speed/bombload etc
