US unfrozen early?

In a PBEM game I attacked the Russians as the Japs in Spring 1942 taking Vladivostock, Yakutsk, Irkutsk, Kamchatka. The next turn the US unfroze in the WA turn - is this right? I did have a non-coastal Chinese territory but it was only Spring 1942 - the manual on page 33 seems to say that it is only in Winter 1942 or later that occupying Chinese non-coastal areas and attacking Russia triggers the US to unfreeze - Have I understood this right? If so is it a bug/mod/patch???

As an aside I suppose that it would be too easy to get Russia without the US entry when it did occur in the gam I am playing.

Winter is the first season in GGWaW - so Winter 42 is earlier than Spring 42.

Thanks Jan- but now you've got me really confused! Campaign 1 starts in Spring 1940 right? and progresses through each season in turn, so how is Winter 1942 before Spring 1942?

Sorry If I am being stupid but I can't see it.

There is no Winter 1940 turn. Turn order is:

Winter
Spring
Summer
Fall

Fal 40
Win 41
Spr 41
etc

Thanks I understand the order of seasons now - but didn't the US still unfreeze for no good reason?

inland china and russia occupied by the japanese will unfreeze the USA. therefore you have to pick to either attack inland china or russia, but not both.
