Light fleet won't attack Sub

I had a PBEM game where a light fleet was trying to attack a sub in the East Med - and when it came to trying to initiate combat the controls on the bar were all greyed out. The fleet was supplied - Any ideas?

If you have a save, send it to Paulv@matrixgames.com. The only reason I can think you might not be able to attack is if your chance to hit is 0. This could happen if you have an ASW value of 1 and the German sub has researched to a 3 evasion.
