New to Game: ? On upkeep costs

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

New to Game: ? On upkeep costs

Post by Mike Carroll »

Under the section on Depots it states that the base cost to supply a divisiion is 1 money and 1 food.

Then under the Upkeep costs on page 28 each unit type has a separate cost for upkeep.

Does this mean that a Rifle Infantry Company in a home province would cost:

1 money and 1 food for supply + 2 money upkeep costs

Is that right or is there something I am not seeing?

I guess you're right. Besides, half of upkeep costs for them can be saved if the troopers are in cities, but their food consumption will be higher if they have been foraging before. But I'm not sure if the upkeep cost would be down if I scaled back the military readiness. Anyone knows it for sure?

Yes - by definition, readiness scalebacks cut the total of the upkeep costs.

The dynamics will change a little in 1.2 to make garrisons worthwhile, but in 1.1 you are better off to have them outside the city foraging, than in the city and automatically being paid for their supply.

Thanks. I have tended to scatter my corps and armies around my home soil to take shelter in cities, and have been doubtful about it ever doing me better.

make sure you put armies and corps inside the cities - the divisions leave outside

I haven't never done it before. It should have helped to halve the upkeep cost of the containers while cutting on the rations. [:'(]

Besides, I woke to a finding - those hiding in a city seemed to come out to take part in a battle happening in the province the city belonged to. I noticed a general's portrait appearing on a quick-battle screen while the general had been assigned alongside his men for garrision duty.
